incidentally, I'm aware that some versions of the Mother ROM have the anti-piracy trap at the end, and some don't. I'm not asking for ROMs, but can someone maybe give me the ROM title for a good copy of the game?

Most emulators play any of the versions fine but if you wanna make sure:

Get the "Demiforce hack v2".

You'll know it's the right one because it will say "Earthbound Zero", and the ZERO WILL HAVE BLUE AND WHITE in the text.

The v1 hack has all white and the normal rom has no ZERO in it.

For earthbound´s sake. This only happens to MOTHER1 copy right? What about earthbound?

There's a bunch of anti-piracy stuff in Earthbound, the worst of which freezes the game as you enter the final battle and deletes your save.

Yeah, the first game had an assload of anti-piracy shit too. Most emulators play the game fine, now though, you don't need any patch.

It's really the only item I spent some time trying to get.

GOD. The last parts of the game are BRUTAL GRINDING for a 1/128 runthough...

Monkey Jebus I'm having a tough time finding the right rom. I'm just about to the point of saying "Screw it" and grabbing the half done "Mother 1 + 2" for GBA...

Well seems like paula + slingshot = terminator. Man at level 20 seems to do 120hp to any monster (with low defense). And, just followed schlupi´s advice by raising the defense stat on paula.

BTW just discovered an awesome PK technique. PK magnet ?.

You don't need to use the Demiforce hack, though.
The hack was only because Nesticle couldn't play the game back then.
Every recent emulator should run it fine.

Yes, I've played Earthbound Zero on NesDS and it worked just fine for me.
