First off lovely father, send him my regards and a basket of roses. Honestly some people...
But yeah, you are most likely going to want to watch some videos on connecting ribbon cables. As someone who has repaired a DS lite, let me assure you it is very annoying. However, if you can slot that sheeeet in, then congrats you fixed a 3DS.
Back to the father though, please tell me this doesn't regularly occur?

I typed up a joke about sticky hands here, but it wasn't really PG-13, so I will say wash your 3DS.
Also your Dad gave it a pretty clean snap, be just a tad bit happy it didn't, say, burst either hinge or smash in a screen.
Your 3DS turning on then shutting off is due to when the ribbon cable is loose (or, in this case, not connected), the 3DS powers down in order to prevent electrical shortages, fires, explosions, etc. Fixing the top screen should also fix the power. If you "connected" the ribbon cable, but it won't turn on, you know you dun-goofed and the cables are loose. Hope this helps.
