Yeah, you're spot on, ssspawn won't have the permissions to install anything to the homescreen. I assume the person you were replying to was just trolling.

yeah geohot CFW for ps3 didnt allow much either when it was released , then like a week later someone altered it to include syscalls and viola we had warez loading

The current 'scene' only exists thanks to Gateway.

Doesn't mean we have to nor should we have to, wholly rely on the GW forever either. There are those who don't wish to get one.

Which in turns means that the "scene" would greatly benefit from something like Smealum's exploit instead of having to rely on Team GW's discoveries every time - too bad everyone is too busy hating on him ;)

Exactly, people are just ingrates when an alternative hack is released. More help is more help. People should not have to rely wholly on the Gateway. People seem to be treating that anything that isn't for GW is against GW like a crime lol.

yeah but even though geohot didn't do syscalls in his cfw WHO did sony go after first GEOHOT I hope smea doesn't get the same treatment from the big N

interest faded. Scene is doing well without his exploit
Hello,

I've been following the homebrew scene for most consoles since the PSP and Wii and been a part of several communities yet I've never seen such an ungrateful community such as this before. What made homebrew for the Nintendo Wii well adopted wasn't just that it was possible but it was that it was accessible and easy and had no pay-wall to it. The 3DS doesn't have that, you are currently forced to buy a flashcard from a sites the average consumer hasn't heard of as well as a 3DS before 2012 that you better hope to god isn't pre-owned.

This well change in a few weeks.

Both Gateway and Smea's exploit will work on new firmwares. Anyone who just has a passing interest in homebrew will in this short time frame have the best chance in a long time to just try homebrew out without a heavy commitment to buying a new pre-2012 3DS as well as not even needing a flashcard for Smea's exploit. They can try out Smealum's exploit and if they want more then they can get a Gateway and know just not to update their 3DS.

Now is not a time to just dismiss others efforts because other people are also doing stuff, now is the time to tell the world about about all this awesome stuff coming from the 3DS hacking and homebrew scene and get as many people interested as possible. The more people are showing interest in playing homebrew, the more people would want to actually code it. So please don't lose interest just because it don't apply to you, be grateful that someone is doing a full time coding gig to get something as big and polished as a whole 3DS homebrew channel, a file server and a 3DS Minecraft clone to get as many people interested in this little community of yours as possible.

As time passes the systems get more and more complex and harder to break.
People don't seek exploits becuase there's someone "showing interest in playing homebrew". They do because it's interesting to them, either because it's an interesting challenge or because of money (or in this 3DS scene, attention seeking on twitter)

and people wonder why smealum posts where banned  its like a gang of little kids trying to bully others, if you don't like him or his exploit just shut up about it

Thank you! I was waiting for someone to say that. If people don't like it, they can just ignore it, really couldn't be more simple.

would be killer if he got 3d slider working on his portal ds in 3ds mode too. not sure how complicated it'd be updating but the original ds one is really fun and well made too.

I dunno, I feel like the dude doesn't deserve as much shit as he gets, but when you're public and stuff I'm sure it can be frustrating and people get at each other both ways.

Smea could easily put all these cart makers out of business if he so felt inclined. Seems a lot of you here don't respect that at all.

Steve jobs could have easily liquidate apple and fed hungry children all over the world if he so felt inclined but we all know that didn't happen.

So, lemme get this straight....Gateway releases statement on 9.x support, people are understandably happy. When Smea (or someone) releases a hack that doesn't allow ROM "backups", people lose their minds and decide not to respect said people. GBA Temp, you never fail to give me a good laugh :rofl2:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but not everyone has to use the hack that allows ROM backups or loading, right? And also, people should be able to decide for themselves what hack is right for them, the one that allows homebrew/unsigned code or the one that allows 3DS backups. To each their own, that's what's so great about having a myriad of hacks.
