Hardware Smash Ultimate GC Controller - Backwards Compatability

Nothing. The Gamecube Controller is the "same" as it was for the Gamecube. The reason I put quotes around same is because while its designed to be the same as the original controllers, it doesn't quite function like the old ones. Reportedly, some of the new controllers have drifting issues or cause you to turn around randomly. Why that is may be due to the large gap in production time between the old and new controllers.

Id say its pretty sad that new gc controllers cant be 100% identical to those from 2002. Nintendo has 100% the specs. They know the exact mix of plastic used as well.....

They are identical to late run gamecube controllers. Just because a small number of individuals (relative to total sales) report having a problem with their controllers doesn't mean Nintendo is manufacturing cheap gamecube controllers. I'm sure people had similar problems when the gamecube was new. This sounds just like the nintendo switch bending issue which, like most problems, gets overblown to give people the impression that they are likely to occur when in fact they are quite rare. Keep in mind, people who would go online and talk about something they bought aren't likely to say how plainly satisfied they are. The new controllers are just as valuable as the old ones except sealed ones of course and if given the choice I would always buy the new production ones which won't have hundreds of hours of joystick use.
