thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'll hold off for now. btw, does anyone know of any other resources for the smash textures aside from that other topic? like other websites, etc?

Use the script mentioned. I've been able to play online now, since the loading times are much shorter with it.

I'm just now trying to get into this and I'm noticing in the OP a comment about long load times. Has this been fixed with the latest release? the 1.1.6 saltysd?
This hadn't been fixed yet, but @shinyquagsire23 is working on this for the next release of saltySD
Yeah I'm working on it, it's a long WIP though. Allocations with this new hook aren't cooperating and I'm actually refactoring a lot of how I do things. I'm actually going to be editing the resource and resource(us_en) files at runtime so that files have proper allocation sizes, which should end up being a nice stepping block into new files. Should simplify a lot of things.

Ok, but that doesn't really answer my question. I wanted to know why my custom CSPs aren't loading. I deleted the custom CSS because no dlc CSPs showed up at all for the characters moved to page 1. They worked before, so I deleted the custom CSS from the saltysd folder. They still won't load.

Is there anyway to modify some of the other textures? For example, I am trying to edit Palutena's wings, but the program throws and unhandled exception whenever I try to look at the textures.

So maybe I'm just overlooking something obvious, but anytime I run "dtls.py dt ls outdir/" in the terminal, I only get this output

C:\Users\bremo\Desktop\Smash 3DS Pack\Obtaining Files\Extraction\Update\DecryptedRomFS_>dtls.py start dt ls outdir/
File "C:\Users\bremo\Desktop\Smash 3DS Pack\Obtaining Files\Extraction\Update\DecryptedRomFS_\dtls.py", line 33
def get_file((start, size)):
^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

Any one know what exactly is wrong? Am I missing something in the tutorial?

Yeah same. Don't worry about it, you don't need those files. Just download the saltysd 1.1.6 cia from your friendly neighborhood cia site, and you're set.

Did you regenerate the cache?

Got things working, now if only there was a way to convert some of the Wii U texture mods to 3ds lol. For now I'll just have to dig around for 3ds textures. Still, great tutorial, its nice to have Brawl sonic's audio instead of Sm4sh's

Lol I just now got the dlc CSPs working. The chr folder goes in the "append" folder for dlc characters, next to the chr folder for regular fighters. Basically: saltysd\smash\ui\replace\chr(for normal fighters)
replace\append (for DLC)

Now for another problem: sfx. I had the same problems that another guy on this thread did: replacing Marth's sword swing and counter sfx with Melee sfx resulted in there being an explosion-like sound effect whenever Marth walks, runs, double jumps forward,(but not backwards. For some reason jumping backwards works fine. ?) uses up-air, and the victory when he swings his sword. How can I fix this?

Mfw trying to find turbo character mods for 3ds, but all are for wii U
There's a giant cache.bin file in the 3ds romhacking on this site. It's called TURDO'D. If you want to use skins and bgm with the mod, you have to decompress the cache.bin and place every fighter's game.bin in the animcmd folder.

Just shooting this over here, but there's a new SaltySD release at https://github.com/shinyquagsire23/SaltySD/commit/d99f5aa34818cb82c72f8c579aaca7bb8233a510
  • No more cachegen.py
  • Complete overhaul on hooks, faster loading, no more online/local play timeouts
  • New files coming fairly soon
I'd highly suggest updating to it if you can. Also, if you run Luma3DS, you can load SaltySD without installing an update .cia as of this commit. I believe you can do this by renaming the code_saltysd.bin file to 00040000000EDF00.bin for US, 00040000000EE000.bin for EUR and 00040000000B8B00.bin for JPN and placing it in sdmc:/luma/code_sections

GASP! Does this fix audio problems,@ Shiny Quagsire?
I haven't changed anything with audio, I'm really not sure what the issue is there though. For audio, I only change paths, no hooking or code needed for that. So chances are it would have to be something fixed with the audio files themselves.

@Shiny Quagsire The only files that don't work for me (for Marth anyway) are the ones I didn't replace, like walking and jumping. My replaced files worked fine, but the ones I didn't replace made explosion-like sounds.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
