Im so confused still. Lets see... Can anyone out there answer these ones?

How easy is it? So I store all the gba files and saves on the r4 micro SD card and i can boot it into the 3 in 1 which allows multiple saves?

You use a loader from your slot 1 to get to your GBa games. you play GBa games. you save them as you normally would if youw ere playing the real copy of theg ame. The save games are stored on your micro SD card (slot 1 r4). when you want to play again, you load up the game you were playing. Your save will load too. its pretty easy, and the 3 in 1 does everything you asked for.

yes, the 3in1 allows multiple saves. i am telling you this as someone who has it and has saves for 20~ gba games as i type

games must be patched with GBATA beforehand.

For every question answered another approches

. How easy is it to patch. Can anyone do it? Is the rumble any good?

Just wondering so I dont have to trail through a massive search list
Im planning to buy a 3-in-1 what is the utility called that allows the R4 to use the 3-in-1?
I plan to use the opera web browser but do I need to patch my browser dump to enable this?
If so does the patch have a specific name too?
Thanks
Rob

is the 16mb internal storage of the 3-in-1 enough for the bigger gba games?
do they need trimming etc to fit?

The 3in1 has 16 MB of RAM for the Opera browser to use (the official pack only has 8). Rudolph's tool can load GBA games into this RAM to make loading very quick. The 3in1 also has 32 MB of NOR flash that is intended to be used for GBA games. It wasn't designed for the RAM to be used for GBA gaming, even though it's now become possible.

So basically, GBA games up to 16 MB can be loaded quickly into the RAM. Games 32 MB in size must be flashed to NOR before usage.

That's really about as simple as I can make it, but I can try I guess.

The EZ-V 3in1 has two things you can use to run GBA games - RAM and NOR flash. The NOR flash is the type of stuff used in old-school GBA flash carts. It takes a long time to write to, but the data is saved on the 3in1 even after poweroff. In essence, the 3in1 becomes recognized as the game you've flashed to it. There is 32 MB of this NOR flash, and the largest size any GBA game can be is 32 MB, so it works out.

There's also 16 MB of RAM on the device. This was originally added so that the Opera web browser could be used with it, but people later found out how to load GBA games into it and launch them. This is much quicker to load, since it's faster to write to than NOR, but the data is lost after you power off the device (save files aren't lost though, so don't worry about that). Since there's only 16 MB of this RAM, you'll need to use the NOR for games that are 32 MB in size.

Ok but I can load gba games off my r4 with the patches and play them through the 3 in 1 correct?
