Oldies Slight video quality issue on N64

I bought an N64 few years ago on a trip to Japan. It works mostly perfectly, except for this issue. It didn't come with a video cable, and so I bought a generic one online. A lot of times, the console produces a video quality issue that really bothers me. The solution is usually to wait a few hours, and it will become good again, but I'm tired of having to always wait to play the games. Is it an issue with the console or the cable, and what can I do to fix it? (It looks worse in person)

Something like this makes me suspect capacitors.

What cable are you using? Composite?

Maybe also try a different TV if you can? Just in case it's the TV not liking the NTSC signal.

For the cable, yes, it is composite.

For the TV, I don't have any CRTs, and the last time I tried hooking up the N64 to any other TV in my house, their input lag was horrendous, but I will do another check.

(edit) I tried it on another TV, and sure enough, you were right, it didn't have that discoloration. But then again, horrible input lag.

Does the TV have something like a "game mode"? Worst case you might want to look into an upscaler.

It doesn't seem like it has. But if there really is no other option, I'd ought to just buy an old crt.
