I would do that happily if that were an option. But as I've stated in my original post, Nintendo shut down the 3ds eShop, so i can't. And to my knowledge, there is no physical copy of the virtual console version of Link's Awakening DX.
While the original Link's Awakening DX is certainly better than the Link's Awakening remake, it isn't better than the virtual console version, hence why I'm looking to find a way to get my hands on that instead. It'll be a fall back but I'm still hopeful that amomo or someone else here might have a viable solution.
I was referring to a Gameboy/Gameboy Color flashcart, which will only work on Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance and other compatible hardware (like the Analogue Pocket and other FPGA-based systems). There is no flashcart that can do what you're asking for on your 3DS.
But as for your other points, bricking is quite a serious risk, especially for teck illiterates like myself as it's a potentially permanent problem, especially given how complex and difficult the instructions for a lot of homebrew are. I mean, as soon as i looked into hShop, i was inundated with terms and separate components I've never heard before, like luma, ntr, fbi, cia and a bunch of other stuff. Already having a system that relies on a bunch of different moving parts is a dangerous game to play but when your handling dangerous/complex things with no understanding of them, then you only increase the risk of f'ing something up, hence why most people are so vehemently against homebrew like myself. Given that risk and the fact that flashcarts seem to be less and less viable i would have to disagree with your statement about flashcarts not being useful today. It sounds like functional flashcarts are more useful than ever for teck illiterates and people avoiding homebrew, like I've stated a few times now, given their scarcity.
Flashcarts like the ones you might remember from older consoles (DS, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color, ...) will never exist for newer systems. Those were only possible because at the time, proper anti-piracy measures were too expensive/slow/inconvenient to implement, and unofficial hardware could trick the system into running unofficial code. Nowadays, newer systems can trivially verify that the cartridge and content are legitimate and hasn't been modified, meaning you can only simulate official software and hardware.
You do not sound "tech illiterate" to me (especially as you've found this forum and know enough to post on it), but scared of technology and afraid of damaging your console. There are other options for you to play this game without modding your console, as mentioned (such as the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, emulators on your phone/computer/..., a Gameboy Color with either an official cartridge or GBC flashcart, ...).
And, as I said, if you are too afraid of modding your own 3DS but you desperately want a modded 3DS, there are plenty of options to get used hardware that has been modded by someone else.
All I can say is that you have to make a compromise somewhere. There is no magical silver bullet here. The 3DS is a very good system to mod because unlike newer systems like the Switch, it doesn't require specific hardware revisions or modding the hardware itself; and it is extremely repairable and unbrickable thanks to the efforts the community has made.
So I've recently been feeling nostalgic for Legend of Zelda games with all the crappy formula-breaking and bobble head plastic LoZ games coming out lately so I've been burning through some old titles like minish cap, link to the past, link between worlds, four sword adventure ect. I was looking for another LoZ game to play when i came across links awakening. Did a bit of digging and found the best version is the 3DS virtual console version of Links Awakening DX. Only problem is the eShop doesn't exist anymore cause nintendo are a-holes. So I've been looking for a way to get the game by other means. Came across something called *snip* but it looks like a teck illiterate's nightmare and it's technically homebrew which most teck illiterates vehemently oppose as if we brick our console, we're F'ed. I then came across a post here of another user asking the same thing back in 2019. Unfortunately most of it was unhelpful as that user was dogpilled or "shitstormed" as he put it, i quite like that. Anywho, there was one viable non-homebrew option that came out of that thread, Sky3DS/Sky3DS+. However the link provided, https://nds-card.com/ , doesn't seem to carry it now. It's been about 6 years since that thread so I'm hoping there are better options for non-homebrew "legitimate" games for the New XL-3DS.
*sigh* i just wish nintendo would let us buy older games.

A: Until five seconds ago i thought a flashcart was a special type of fake cartridge.
B: I found this place through a simple and easily accessible duckduckgo search: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=3ds+games+without+modding&t=newext&atb=v282-1&ia=web
C: Finding a solution to a problem is not a "silver bullet". Take for example how Feed and Grow: Fish no longer works on most PCs but through the community several "fixes" manage to make the game work again. It's not a silver bullet, it's community effort and cooperation.
D: Nintendo Online is an incredibly bad service that basically amounts to "streaming". Emulators are about as sketchy as homebrew and I've heard from chuggaconroy and others that emulators can carry with them some significant problems. As I've said, I'm keeping the old GBA Link's Awakening DX in my back pocket as a fallback plan if i fail here. I have an old GBA SP from my childhood (a copy of the original cartridge is gonna be a beach to find though).
E: I AM teck illiterate, I'm just not a luddite. And yes I am scared of bricking my console, not only because It's my personal 3DS and thus has a lot of sentimental value but also because I've been down the "trust me, bro" route only to wind up utterly f'ed. Maybe it's different with 3DSs but I'm simply not willing to put myself in that kind of vulnerable position . . . yet. Maybe i might consider getting a second pre-modded 3DS someday but for now i don't want to give up yet just because a solution is readily available. I hope you understand where I'm coming from. I'd like to keep trying down this rout for a little while longer

I go over it a few times in my posts here in greater detail explaining my reasoning but the TL;DR is it's simply too dangerous/complex for normal people like myself.
To be honest, while hacking the console may seem a bit complex to some people at first, it's actually pretty safe given all the measures taken.
And worst case scenario, if you get to screw the system so much it doesn't boots (which seems extremely unlikely), just using NTRBoot with a DS flashcard will allow you to regain control of your console and fix whatever must've happened.
The 3DS hacking guide has a link to the Nintendo Homebrew Discord server, were you to need any help in the process or have any questions. Don't feel afraid to try, nothing serious will happen, and you can receive help were you inclined to give it some time to actually do what has to be done, so you can enjoy exactly what you're looking for. There's no other way to get to work what you're asking for.

Please read some of my other posts here. Seriously, why is it so hard to respect my wishes to not be "convinced" to use homebrew? This is why tw_fan rightfully accused people here of forcing him to use homebrew, you people will not stop trying to force that down our throats. Please Stop. Seriously, what do we have to say to get you people to respect our wishes?

The entire community moved to easy-to-use softmods many years ago. So much that any method that doesn't depend on custom firmware has severely (and I mean, severely) fallen out of favor.
Your non-homebrew options have been laid out for you. If you want to play games that did not come out as retail game cards (in this case, Virtual Console games), you have to use a modded 3DS, play the games on a different console, or acquire a 3DS that already has the games. There are no other alternatives.

I feel like you are selling yourself short, it’s actually extremely easy to hack a 3ds and hard to fuck it up. But I got my answer, so I will leave ya to it. If you need help with modding a 3DS, my services will randomly appear late as fuck and too lazy to read the thread

I've read every single post, and we're mentioning that there's no other way to do what you're looking for. Not much anyone that knows about 3DSes would ever be able to say
Not much we can do about it. In my part, this isn't a matter of preference, it's a matter of what is possible under 3DS'es OS. If you don't like the situation, you can just move on. There's not much I, or anyone, can say to your specific request. Sometimes it just isn't possible to achieve the exact thing you want, unless you come up with the software solution yourself. Such is life.

I don't care what you think. I don't care what you believe. You don't know everything. You are not god. Leave me and everyone else alone. Stop posting in my thread or I'm going to report you for harassment.

I'm really not. And it IS extremely difficult to NORMAL people. If ANY of you bothered to read any of the other posts here before commenting you'd have seen that I've been down that "trust me, bro" rout already.

This is my thread, YOU can move on and stop commenting in my thread. I asked from the get go for you people to not bring up homebrew and every OTHER f'ing post has been "do homebrew, do homebrew, do homebrew." SHUT UP! If i want to post a thread asking for non-homebrew options and leave it there till the end of f'ing time then that's my prerogative. Just because YOU don't have the answer doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Stop thinking you're god, your not. Leave me the F alone! If you don't have the answer to a problem, DON'T POST!

I'm sorry you feel that way but it doesn't change the fact that what you are asking for (playing VC games with a 3DS flashcard) is literally impossible. Yes, I do know for a fact that you cannot do it. You have absolutely NO homebrew-less options here. People are trying to make this clear to you. You'd have a completely empty thread otherwise.

I would PREFER an empty thread to THIS. And NO you DON'T know for a fact that what i'm asking for is impossible because you don't know everything! "IF" it's impossible then so be it but i don't want to hear your opinion parroted 20 times!

I've been in this scene for 9 years, yes I really do know what I'm talking about when I say that it's impossible. That's not my opinion, that's just the reality of the situation.

I don't care how long you've been in the scene. I've seen even experts in their own field get proven wrong. But non of that matters as i have explicitly requested to not have homebrew rammed down my throat. Now this is my official statement for you to stop posting in my thread. The next post you make here will be registered as harassment and reported to the moderators.
