Hacking Skinning help

Ok, This is my frist skin (in progress) right now, i ahve the bottom screen and the animated icons finished, but the background imade for the top screen, isnt showing up correctly, I can either get it to be the right size but be black and white, or be stretched out and be in color, I Know something is diffrent about the top background, just now sure what it is.... any information or links will be appreciated.

the top screen needs to be 256x192 pixels and it needs to have 8bit color, tht means you need to reduce it to only 256 colors (most photo manipulation software will have an option to do it).

I've never than problem you are getting, but following this method will make it work.

He's using 24 bit colour so it will appear stretched to three times the size

You also failed to mention the overflow problem but I imagine he'll be back if he meets it, I imagine the black and white one was where he reduced it to greyscale and therefore 8 bit colour, lol
