Retro Computers Limited announced today that they will begin shipping the ill fated Vega + Console.
The Sinclair Vega + has a long history of missed shipping dates, in fighting from shareholders, and complete lack of communication from the company RCL. The indiegogo campaign launched back in the beginning of 2016 and raised £512,790 (366% of their target goal ) with the delivery date set for December 2016. The handheld promised backers a portable console to allow you to play ZX spectrum games on the go,with 1000 games built in , with the backing and blessing of the inventor of the Spectrum machines Sir Clive Sinclair.
Earlier in the year Indiegogo announced that they would be stepping in if RCL did not meet several requirements, such as sending a working production unit to Indiegogo and shipping by the end of may. Both of these conditions were not met and IGG said they were starting proceedings to have debt collectors. But RCL said they were still committed to getting units out to backers.
RCL has also been in court several times this year both with the Paul Andrews (shareholder) and backers. RCL managed to lose both these cases with David Levy (chairman of RCL) failing to attend court due to " A threat on his manhood". The judge in this case has denied to hear the case again commenting that it was a pathetic and shameful excuse. RCL still has many more small claims cases still in the pipeline.
But today RCL has announced they will indeed start shipping units out to backers with one caveat, you must have opted into recieve the console without the games advertised. The games list in the last few months has been a big bone of contention between the backers and RCL. With RCL promising to release the games list, only to the very next day say, they will not be releasing the games list and the games list currently in circulation being fake and that's the reason why they aren't releasing the list. At this time it is believed that they currently do not have any rights to any Spectrum games and the hardware that people were promised has been replaced by a System On a Chip (SOC) running popular spectrum emulator FUSE.
Only time will now tell if backers will get anything or if it was worth the money or the wait or if RCL are a bunch of crooks.
