So the bricks so far seem pretty random right? (apart from a few wrong CIAs used). It CAN randomly crash while loading the CIAs and lead you to a soft/hard brick, or so I recollected.
Yes. The method is pretty much safe, but there's always some percentage that it could go wrong. Don't let that discourage you though, because most of the bricks have been human error.

mine is on the part where it says it will reboot in 10 seconds, but its been a few minutes now, should i just leave it alone?

Hey, so is there a guide for installing cfw for running... "backups"?

Did anyone use this method to "downgrade" a JPN N3DS from 8.1J to 9.2J?
I'm on 8.1J and thinking of updating to 10.3J via wifi, and then downgrade from 10.3J to 9.2J, would this work?
I only have GW cards and JPN OoT.

When I hit downgrade this is all the screen does for me:

Anyone know what to do? Been on it for 10+ minutes.
Try pressing y again.. If after awhile it still is stuck it should be okay to power cycle and try again.

Powercycled and did it again, same screen.. Will it show any text or change anything on-screen when the downgrade process begins?

Each time I downgrade, it freezes on reboot screen and then I cannot access home menu with the only option left of updating via recovery. O3DS XL using menuhax

I'm so tempted to do it right now, but on the off chance that I screw it up because I didn't wait for a more stable version... i'll die

Just
I also finally managed to downgrade from 10.3 (US) to 9.2 on an o3ds XL

For a while I was stuck with a line 100 error: could not read CIA information.

This error:

The fix was simple enough: I just re-extracted the CIA's zipfile using a different program. I couldn't tell you what to use on Windows, but for OS X, using The Unarchiver, rather than the system's unzip utility helped.

Obviously, after unzipping, you need to copy the new files over. But after that, it was quick and painless — even rebooted!

So maybe put that in the op for the few people who've had issues?
tried this, same error here. Extracted with a different utility directly to the SD. No go.

Successful downgrade on ORIGINAL JAPANESE 3DS version 9.9 to 9.2

Mine was stuck on the reboot part and never rebooted so i turned the power off.

Screen was black when i turned it back on, turned it off and took memory card out and
turned it back on and it worked and was on 9.2.

Hope this info helps someone
