Maybe try ssd? They are way more silent (no mechanical parts) and faster... only problem is price- but I bet you can find something affordable...

it don't need to be completly silent. and a 500gb ssd is still to expensive I only want to pay 70€. how good is a internal hdd with an external case for external use?

you could just use a 128gb flash drive. i use one. remember that the wii us internal memory is the same chips as a usb flash drive. the nand will only where out when written to. reading will be the most use and that does nothing.

Most external HDD's are pretty quiet, the noisy ones are the ones with full size 3.5" drives with fans built in. The one you linked should fine.

256GB usb 3.0 flash drives go for $50~ USD. Small, silent and you could have more than one if you want. Or you could go with a HDD drive but they aren't silent, much bigger but more storage.

tbh I have already to much games. so yeah I think I will go with a 500gb hdd.
I will test the hdd which I linked. when it's more silent then the disc drive then I'm happy. rly the wiiu disc drive is really loud :(

how are you hearing those hard drives are they right next to you? Most modern drives are very quite i have piles of them here. I aint found a noisy one in a while unless its from an old computer i have a western digital blue 1tb in this netbook im using and its silent. As for loud drives try them old quantium fireball/bigfoot drives from the late 90s they are loud but not as loud as these server drives i have they sound like a jet engine when they spin up. 15,000 rpm will do that

I can guarantee you that (at least mine) WD Elements 1TB is far more silent than WiiU.
Actually my hearing is very sensitive and WiiU is annoying the hell out of me.

I don't use any hdd atm expect in my pc and I don't hear it. but the disc drive of the wiiu is so loud which is the reason why I only play disc games with headphones (the wiiu is below my pc display). I hear a lot of relative silent things what some people don't hear. so when I only hear a bit nois it's not bad.

i have this one for the wii, works fine on the wii and ps3, doesn't need Y cable, is not sleepy
i only can hear noise if i am really close... both the wii and ps3 fans are much louder than this thing
if you are really close to the drive you can hear the spinning, but its not an annoying sound...

does the wii U outputs less power than a wii or ps3?

this ^

i have 3, a 1tb WD Elements, a normal WD 500gb and i use one called sgst i think.. (i pulled this from my ps4 as i upgraded its internal hdd, simply by removing its original which was 500gig and i placed a 1tb inside).

basically converted the internal hdd of the ps4 into a external one, all of them are very quiet.

your fine, get whatever external hdd you want , most are very quiet so dw.

Yeah you need a y cable if the hdd don't use a power brick. 500gb is a nice hdd size for wiiu
