Hacking Should I keep a 5.0.2 switch for homebrew

I picked up a 5.0.2 switch recently (hoping it was a lower version). Should I return it and try for something better, or should I keep it.

I definitely want to add homebrew to teh unit.

All fw can be hacked through Fusee Gelee, so if you don't mind using a jig you should be fine. If you want a softmod though you should get a Switch on 4.1.0 or lower, and if you want persistent coldboot you will need to be on 1.0.0, but up to 3.0.1 are apparently possible, but unlikely.

Assuming your system is not the new hardware revision (buying a new system on 5.0.2 makes me nervous for you), you can use a jig to load RCM on all system versions, meaning you will be able to load CFW on any system version. You can also install AutoRCM so you only need to use the jig once.

I would test if RCM works before returning it

@Brian Turner Can you boot into RCM using your Switch? You will need to use one of these methods. If you can successfully boot into RCM, then there's no real reason to return the Switch.

I'll keep my advice similar to the 3DS.

Stay on whatever version you have for now, and when this board gives the general all-clear, update.

In short, yes. But read up what people say when updates come out before doing anything.

Using the JIG and USB isnt as bad as some make it out to be and once they fix the sleep bug it wont even matter Keep your 5.0.2 in my opinion, just dont upgrade that version. You can play all the latest Switch games and still mess around with homebrew while it is in it's infancy

Great question! No one knows yet but most of us are in airplane mode to be safe
