The ps3 was hackable only on 3.55, nothing was found above that firmware. 3ds is a different story, theres no eta on when the exploit going to be released it can take years.

In some cases it makes sense to wait, but I don't see the point with the 3DS as it's not that hard to get an exploitable console.

You would only incur a small penalty for selling your current system and buying another. Especially since you can do it all for free now with CFW.
