So I have a working disc drive to put into a wii with a broken disc drive. I put the disc drive in and it worked for about 5 seconds. It stopped responding to any button presses. I took out the power cord and plugged it in and the wii automatically turned on, went red, and the led turned off within the span of probably under 0.3 seconds. I tried it one more time by unplugging it and plugging it back in and this time it did not turn on automatically, but when i pressed the button it did the same thing as before. I looked it up and it says that it is a shorted disc drive driver. I tried putting in the broken disc drive and it worked (aside from reading the discs). So now I am wondering, how did the disc chip short and die???

Replace the disc drive, no point on fixing it if it's already dead. Or, better yet, load your games off an external HDD.
I will be replacing it, but I just dont know how it randomly failed when i plugged it in. I tested it before putting it in the wii.

This is what happens when you turn it on (this is the wii it came out of and it still doesnt work) and then the other wii with the broken one

Update! I swapped the lasers, they were both comptatible. Unfortunately it still does not work. I do not know what the problem is. It never like initializes the disk.
