Homebrew Sending Commands From Wii to Computer

I'm interested in Wii homebrew development and would like to know one simple thing: Is it possible to send some data (an integer or Boolean value) from a Wii homebrew program to a PC or Mac program over the home network? This is somewhat done by WiiVNC when pressing a button on the keyboard, but I would like to send the data to a program instead of using VNC.

you could run a webserver on the computer then make the wii load the webpage. Only problem is that the wii would need to know the IP address of the computer that you want it to interact with.
