Hacking Searching for R4i firmware

Hello everyone,

I have two R4i cards with a micro-SD card in it. Unfortunately, both memory cards are empty. I can’t find the right firmware for my R4 cards. They’re, of course, not working now.

The cards I have are:
- R4i (black/grey case)
- R4i V1.4 (gold/yellow case)

Is there anyone who can help me to get the right firmware for both cards?

So many similar names and when you search the web, you find so much nonsense. I tried. The best I found is here on GBAtemp.net. So I had better searched right here. Maybe it helps:

I, unfortunately, know both cards are fake. I’m afraid that’s the reason I can’t find what I’m looking for.

That sounds like a lot of work.

Are the cards even recognized in the DSi? Do you see a banner image when you insert them (as if a regular game was in the DSi)? You should see a banner even without software on the micro-sd.

The DSi doesn’t recognise the gold card at all. The black card is recognised as a normal game, but gives an error when I open it.

Okay. There are downloads for the domain given on the black card on linfoxdomain. So none of them worked. Too bad! No ideas left… Wrong… I have one (a wild guess) question/idea left: Is the micro-sd inside the black card formatted correctly with FAT32? Does it act differently if you try to start with NO micro-sd at all?

Let’s have a look at the golden card. Not even detected. So you do not know if any of the software would work. Some possibilities come to my mind:

• Flashcard is blocked by the DSi firmware.
• Contact issues.
• Both.
• Flashcard is defective.

→ Try the golden card in an old DS-lite or DS-phat. If it’s not detected there, try (carefully!) supporting the contact by placing a piece of cardboard, so that the contacts are pressed slightly harder against their counterparts inside the DS. Some flashcards are of poor quality and not as precisely manufactured as legit Nintendo games.
