I had planned to test my theory then take you advice about the 4KB clusters but I ended up fixing the problem in a very weird way.

I thought not to copy over everything at once but to just do it in bunches and after each bunch, I'd test GS:DD to see if it still worked. Bunch after bunch, GS:DD ended up working and all of my data and settings had reverted back as if I copied them all over at once except GS:DD boots.

I'm not sure why copying in bunches would make any difference than copying it all at once, its the same data. The card remained in 8KB cluster size.

The card or sd reader are probably getting to hot corrupting the data. When I back up my cards I never do it all at once anymore, I have killed too many SD readers.

Here are my card results:

Sequential (512 B):
max: 625 us, avg: 327 us
Sequential (4 KiB):
max: 2842 us, avg: 2788 us
Sequential (16 KiB):
max: 11349 us, avg: 11339 us

Random (512 B):
max: 667 us, avg: 648 us
Random (4 KiB):
max: 2871 us, avg: 2826 us
Random (16 KiB):
max: 11388 us, avg: 11373 us

Running: 1.8.1 AKAIO, freshly formatted using the Panasonic SD Formatter.

I cannot boot GS: DD (black screen). I am going to try with the 8KB cluster size in Windows and see if that helps. I'll update this post.

UPDATE:
Still the same problem after using the 8192 cluster size in Windows formatter.

Here are the speeds as well:

Sequential (512 B):
max: 677 us, avg: 344 us
Sequential (4 KiB):
max: 3077 us, avg: 3008 us
Sequential (16 KiB):
max: 12573 us, avg: 12358 us

Random (512 B):
max: 793 us, avg: 734 us
Random (4 KiB):
max: 3272 us, avg: 3108 us
Random (16 KiB):
max: 12943 us, avg: 12483 us

I have a 2 GB Transcend MicroSD card.

Hey @NickP!

Those numbers you posted look pretty huge. My 8gb sammy is running at almost twice that speed. I would save up and buy one of the cards recommended in this thread

Yeah, nevermind. My card had improved latency but also didn't have enough for certain games. For example, it could run GS:DD but freeze after looking around in 999. The card was reformatted to 4KB cluster size which gave optimal results.

Speed test results were:

Code:
Sequential 512B:
ÂÂÂÂ Max: 959ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ Avg: 492
Sequential 4KB:ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ Max: 3051ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Avg: 2997
Sequential 16KB:
ÂÂÂÂ Max: 11402ÂÂÂÂ Avg: 11065
Random 512B:
ÂÂÂÂ Max: 1152ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Avg: 1074
Random 4KB:
ÂÂÂÂ Max: 3279ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Avg: 3150
Random 16KB:
ÂÂÂÂ Max: 11152ÂÂÂÂ Avg: 11201

4GB Kingston(not sure) Class 4 Model C04G Taiwan ( R):16.7 MByte/s ( W):4.38 MByte/s ( RA):1.5ms Average Read: 18,7 MB/s

AP mode works on:
-Super Scribblenauts

AP mode fails on:
-Sonic Colors
-Golden Sun DD
-999

I don't know much about this. Any hope for me?

I formatted the microSD using the "SDFormatter V2.0," but made no difference...

So 4KB works?

I'm hesitant to suggest that as carts sometimes have issues with that.
It gave better results on 16KB tests than on 8KB clusters. Ex: 8KB clusters on 16KB tests gave like 18000 or so as a value.

I hate to double post but I'm just going to because this thread needs to grow a little more.

With the latency test now in hand we can effective have people test their cards for speed.

If you have a working card, please post it and I will add it ASAP. Thank You!

My no name 8gb class 6 microsdhc card I got off dealextreme a while back is working fine. I haven't had any slow down and on hdtach it says my speeds are:
52986563.jpg

now i'm a bit confused.
my previous 4GB has about 11K latency, as expected, it did have some problem with golden sun, it did boot with bypass AP but osmetimes dim dragon kick in.

now using 1GB lexar i found lying around on my backup cart, it has around 7K latency. now it boot everygame without any problem, golden sun, sonic color, 999, dan not a problem with soft reset.
but the thing is, i totally disabled bypass AP on system setting and individual rom setting.

not that i complain or anything, just a bit confused since everyone said golden sun need to use bypass AP.

8GB Sandisk Class 2 - SDSDQ-8192 - Made in China (Amazon)
readspeed: 17.6 MB/s | random access time: 1.1ms | burst speed: 18.1 MB/s | HDTach's graphic

as I've seen in the tests, the results are always the same whether using microSD full or empty. Golden Sun works, while 999 freezes every few hours, in AKAIO 1.8.1. every other game works as well (i.e. Super Scribblenauts). I don't use individual settings, and the AAP is turned on.

latency tests:
Sequential (512B): max 681 µs, avg 353 µs
Sequential (4KiB): max 2938 µs, avg 2831 µs
Sequential (16KiB): max 11591 µs, avg 11388 µs
Random (512B): max 735 µs, avg 697 µs
Random (4KiB): max 2955 µs, avg 2843 µs
Random (16KiB): max 11625 µs, avg 11435 µs

2GB Kingston - SD-C02G - Made in Japan (Amazon)
readspeed: 17.8 MB/s | random access time: 1.0ms | burst speed: 18.7 MB/s | HDTach's graphic

Golden Sun is also working in this SD with Acekard and R4 with Wood 1.19. probably the cluster size is default, I'm not certain.

latency tests in R4:
Sequential (512B): max 378 µs, avg 198 µs
Sequential (4KiB): max 1598 µs, avg 1540 µs
Sequential (16KiB): max 6230 µs, avg 6117 µs
Random (512B): max 858 µs, avg 828 µs
Random (4KiB): max 2032 µs, avg 1990 µs
Random (16KiB): max 6594 µs, avg 6564 µs

latency tests in Acekard:
Sequential (512B): max 736 µs, avg 383 µs
Sequential (4KiB): max 3094 µs, avg 2991 µs
Sequential (16KiB): max 12295 µs, avg 11940 µs
Random (512B): max 785 µs, avg 757 µs
Random (4KiB): max 3118 µs, avg 3005 µs
Random (16KiB): max 12318 µs, avg 11937 µs

[EDIT] 999, in like 16 hours of gameplay between yesterday and today, did not freeze anymore in Acekard.

Ok, so i tried the latency test for this exact card "8GB ADATA MicroSDHC Class 6 Made in Korea R" i think...heres a link Newegg

Results for all test:
218
1732
6900
446
1776
6949

Now this seems to meet the standards to be able to play 999. I even updated to 1.8.1 and have AP enabled.
However the game always crashes at the first room, always after i look at the photo frame. >.<

This is rather annoying, so anyone have a clue as to what im doing wrong?
Thanks

EDIT: Golden Sun seems to work. Played a little, but no crashes.

Just got this in

Patriot Micro SDHC 4GB Class 10
Read: 20.1
Random Access 1.1

still gotta hit it with SD foramtter this is fresh out of the pack

Okay now this is weird. I've been using a 1GB Kingston card up til now and it's had no problems. No problems running GS, 999, Unwound Future, Last Window as long as I had the bypass anti-piracy option on. I ordered the 4GB Transcend card on the first post and it came in the mail today. So I decided to try it and oddly GS doesn
t work. Even when I have the bypass on, what gives?

edit: I updated to 1.8.5 and I'm still getting the same problems. Not only that but I tried out some of the older games like AC:WW and Tetris DS, I see patches of distorted pixels.
