Hello, my son is not the most gentle with his switch. We are getting a 1-bit error with Hekate.

I’ve disassembled the device and it looks like one of the pins is damaged on the SD Card Reader.

Do you have any suggestions or advice on where or how to fix this?

Thank you for your help!

Dave

That 16 pin connector will need replaced. Micro soldering is required.

This happened me twice in the past year and a half. The things are super fragile. The 16-pin connector can be gotten off eBay for like $3-$5. And if you can't solder it yourself you can find a repair shop near you that can do it. Anywhere that repairs smartphones/iPhones/tablets will most likely do it. Cus those people solder in new charging ports and stuff for those devices. Same thing really.

You can solder a wire to an alternate point, like @BaamAlex suggested. That's the easiest fix. The other way is to replace the entire connector. I would not suggest trying to do that yourself, it's easy to screw up and make things worse. If you can solder a wire, it will be a lasting fix unless the connector is damaged further.
I suggest teaching your son to take better care of his things. Alternatively if he's too young to understand, only allow him to use the Switch docked until he gets older, to prevent further damage.

I bought all the items off Amazon. It was cheap. I'm going to follow this guide : https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+Switch+FPC+Connector+Socket+Replacement/150850

I'm reading in here that we can actually reinsert the pins to the socket? That sounds way easier. The service places I called wanted $150 to repair this, at that point, we could buy another.

I’ve seen a couple videos where they painstakingly put the pins back. If you can find the pin it can’t hurt anything so it’s worth a shot.

Do the one wire if you can solder.
Looking at the picture you posted. I'm missing pin 8. What gauge wire do I solder to the board and where? Also, do you think I should try taking a pin out of the new 16 pin connector vs. trying to replace it? Thank you all for your help. This is great.

I never soldered one before, I never had one that was missing pins, but I think you can use something like AWG 40 or AWG30.

I had to solder a wire for my wife's Switch, when I buyed was the most destroyed console ever (and the seller sell as mint condition -I got a refund-)

I did use the only wire on hand at the time and was a wire of a ribbon cable, that cable is huge compared to the soldering points.

Any AWG 28 or thick will do the trick.

Awesome. Where do I solder the wire points?

Well, I solved one problem and created a new one. Seems I damaged the plastic part that goes from the lcd screen to the motherboard. When applying heat, this part came off. We added flux and solder to the points, but still no response. When we hold the ribbon down, it will flash on. Anyone know where to get this part. Thank you all so much for your help. This has been fun and interesting. Learning a lot.

Such a pain in the ass to solder!

Take it to a shop unless you are a pro.

I hear you. I do enjoy the challenge of fixing and learning more. I ordered the part from AliExpress. Thank you for that. I can’t believe I can’t find that part in the US. I’ve looked on Amazon and eBay with no luck. I truly appreciate you all helping

I never searched for the parts on https://www.digikey.com but think will be no avail.

Super hard to find since the terms are so generic and squinting at a microscopic picture of a microscopic part for clues doesn’t help.

We only know what it is due to the context of the conversation and humans are good at context.

Suck it ChatGPT!
