I was given a new nintendo 3ds that wont turn on and looking for some help troubleshooting. the sd card is blank so i dont know how i can proceed with installing cfw

if i take the sd card out and press the power button a blue light flashes for a second and nothing further happens
the sd card is blank. i have followed steps to reformat the card. when the sd card is inserted and i press power same thing, blue light flashes for a second and nothing further happens
reading through the forum someone suggested adding the luna 10.0.1 boot.firm file to the sd card root. when i do this and press power the blue light turns on and stays on but the screen doesnt turn on.
i went though and tried other versions of luna and same thing. the blue light comes on and stays on but the screens dont turn on.
if i remove the sd card the blue light flashes and nothing happens again.

i have tried basic stuff like removing the battery, start+power to get into a menu, L+R+Up+A+power to try a system update, in all the scenarios, when the sd card is in, the blue light comes on but nothing on the screen.

it seems like its something with the boot file since when i add that to the sd card i can atleast get the blue light to remain on. anyone have any other suggestions for me? tia

Which guide did you use to install CFW?
i personally havnt installed cfw. since its a new 3ds i believe i would need to follow the seedminer steps? but without my friend id and 32 digit id0 i cant proceed with any steps i have seen. correct me if there is another route i can take
im unaware if cfw had been installed on the ds prior.

Wait... no, you mentioned a guide... a guide for something, but a guide...
Which guide were you using?

i have viewed the guide at 3ds.hacks.guide/seeminer and attempted to follow to load cfw but i cant get past the first step without the info i mentioned to use bruteforce.
i mention following steps to reformat the sd card, maybe this is what you are referencing. it was on a post on this forum... use guiformat with 32k allocation size.

Sure, after further inspection I've noticed that I'm an idiot and I cannot read properly.
:rofl2:
Well, let's check if by some miracle you've installed B9S onto your system.
Put Luma3DS onto your SD card and turn on the console while you're pressing Select.
As you tested by powering on the console while pressin' Start, this might present us with the same results, nada. But is a good first step just to be clear.
Then, 'cause probably it will not work, do you have a flashcard?

put luma3ds onto my sd card, just tried again with select+power and start+power and nothing. the blue light comes on but the screen is just black.
i do not have a flashcard

Well, if you don't have CFW installed, then probably isn't a software problem, but instead a hardware problem, mayble some ribbon cable came loose, maybe they broke.
The flashcard I was asking for was to check if you could run a script to repair software bricks, but it's useless if the problem is on the hardware side.
Just to be sure... when you turn on the console and then it turns off, does it make a "pop" sound from the speakers?

i hear no audible sounds when i try to turn on. i was hopeful since i got (what appear to be) better results with the boot file on the sd card it was software related instead of hardware. i guess ill buy a triwing screwdriver and try to open it up to check the ribbons

What better results did you get while using Luma3DS file on the SD card? What's the change?

without it, and also without the sd card in, when i attempted to power on the blue light would just flash for a second. with luma3ds on the card the blue light remained on after i powered on.

There's no Nintendo 3DS folder... weird.
Did the console worked before this?
at some point it did but not recently. in my original post i mentioned that the sd card was blank when i got it. i did reformat it but there is no backup of the original. on 3ds wiki i saw the folder structure it should have and i created the empty folder tree but it didnt help at all. with no boot.firm file the blue light blinks when power on, with the boot.firm file the blue light remains on.

I actually had this happen to me yesterday. I would turn on the 3DS and the blue light would show for 2 seconds and dim out swiftly.

I just let the thing sit for an hour, and then it worked. Happened again later. So I took out the SD card and re-inserted it.

I have no idea why, but the ds was not turning on due to the SD card not being read correctly. Like a user said above, it shouldnt be happening like this. But it did.

I have not been able to re-create the problem, either.

If this is happening, and you have stuff on the SD card, try to back up everything. Just in case.

Well. seeing as OP mentions the blue light stays on and not off after a few seconds would say its quite different from what your issue was.

My... I actually completely skimmed over that part. Should I remove the comment? Lmfao I am very new to this GBATemp thing. I don't really know "what's acceptable"
