Can the bottom screen backlight be turned off during playback? That would probably help battery life considerably.

It should be with select, as with iPlayer. However, it's the processor that drains the crap out of the batteries. So it wouldn't make much of a difference

and no, if i use the dpad i can seek in videos and it does not freeze. i just retested for you on 4 videos, 2 are over 1gb in size. it could be a video specific problem as i found some flvs just won't play while others do. even with computer software if the video is not encoded correctly odd behavior will occur.

After more test, i identified exactly the problem on the iSMM movie player.
I use videos from the divxtest v2 like i told you. It's the best test kit i know to test any divx player.
Those video are short (42 seconds) mean when you press dpad to the right, it seek to the end of the movie and freeze.
If i let the video finish by itself, it freeze also.

The seek feature is ok on a longer video, so the freezing bug is not tied to that but to the fact once a multimedia file is fully played , it freeze.

My question now : Have you tried to let a movie or a music play until the end by itself ? No freeze encountered ?

Here you go:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X7LH8B0C

an MKV file which contains an .ass sub file, in case AW feels like checking it out ;P
This should play just fine, as it basically has the same properties as the other one I've sent you.

It should be 32 seconds, iirc.

That file worked fine on iPlayer, which unfortunately doesn't tell us much. It didn't load the subtitles, but I extracted the .ass (yes, it's hilarious

) out and it loaded it fine as a separate file.
Regular MKV files which are normally around 170MB etc, lag like crap though. So unless one of those can be tested, we'll just have to wait till they release it before we can test it out properly.
But considering the tried out version doesn't even load subtitles. It seems to be a simple port out of iPlayer video player's first version. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Plus it wouldn't be the first time they release a half-finished plug-in.

Can't wait its almost here it seems. Even tho I don't expect it to run perfectly, but once it comes out the team can focus on bug fixes for all the plug-ins since everything they stated is now out then huh?

Could we see a pic of what soft-subs look like? The DS' screen is such a low resolution, the font has to be only a few pixels per letter. I can't see that as being legible in any way. ESPECIALLY lines with more than 10 words in them.

Are you forgetting that companies release RPGs on the DS all the time?

It's not nearly as bad as you think.
