Hi,

I have a few Switch practice boards and I would like to try to replace a capacitor on Tegra chip. (Sp1/Sp2) Can someone tell me the best and safest temperature and airflow settings for such a job?

Thanks!

Don't go over 390 and don't set the airflow too high else you will blow the other capacitors off the Tegra as well.
A lot depends on how long and how hot you preheat, your skills and whether you use flux to loosen things up.
Start at 300 C and 50% flow rate and try to see if that works for you.
A higher flow rate will speed up things but also blow other components of the board.
A higher temperature will of course heat up things faster too but you might heat up things too much.
Get some other junk boards to practice on to see what works for you.

You can use Kapton tape to shield off other components.

Also don't trust the reading on your hot air station unless you have a decent one.
My Hakko and Chinese clone have a 30 degree difference and my Chinese one can also be used as a paint stripper with the amount of airflow it generates.

Great! Thanks. I used to have a YIHUA 858D hot air Station and nothing worked. It even snapped in halve when I used it for 10 Minutes. On Reddit they recommended the Atten ST-862D and now everything seems to work. I was able to reball the Tegra APU on my second try and repair I BSOD on a faulty board. I was able to replace a P13 on my first try. But I still fail constantly when I try to replace USB-C connectors. I just can‘t manage to get all lines to connect. I have a few junk boards from eBay and will try to replace the Sp2 one from an OLED Board After practicing on the junk boards. Was afraid that I could roast the Tegra, so thanks angain for the infos!
