I know there are MANY MANY threads about this, but for some reason I still feel confused about the actual process.

So, We have an old 3DS in the family which I modded for my nephew around two years a go. I left the scene for a while, came back and bought a N3DS & N3DS XL. I have modded them both the luma3DS 9.X. But I feel confused on the removal / update process to get him to Luma.

This thread just says to follow the standard 3DS.Guide information as if it was already "unpacked" is this correct? I believe I have NAND backups of his 3DS still, but also I won't have a lot of time with him today so don't want to rush anything if it isn't as quick and simple as doing it from scratch on a non-hacked console.

Thread URL is here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-updating-from-rxtools-to-luma3ds.427735/

Any help would be much appreciated

Don't know with what you have trouble, just follow the guide you encountered yourself and you are good

Thanks for the reply. - I have an update on the 3DS XL now I can actually spend time on it. The game card slot doesn't read games. It is currently on 9.2FW is there a way I can install CFW in SysNAND and then do an update since I have soundhax etc available to me and to my NTRBoot card... Again, any help would be really appreciated

Just follow the link tastymeatball posted, there's everything you need to know there. Follow the guide normally, it will also instruct you on how to move stuff from rxtools to luma

Thanks for the reply. - I did a direct upgrade from 9.2 to 11.8 then did seederminer, worked great.

Thanks very much for your help

Uhm you know you could've just followed the steps for 9.2 right?
well you noticed he created a thread and asked questions . . . if you wanted to make it easier for him you should have given him an response that reflected that, instead of telling him to just use the link

It doesn't take long to look at the list of firmwares supported by the guide and see that there are instructions for 9.2, OP is just lazy.

fair enough . . . but the op also noted they had soundhax and a ntrboot compatible flashcard . . . it sounds to me like he was asking for advice on witch to use (ease of use)

Wasn't lazy at all, your reply was "Lazy". I didn't see any reply from yourself when I needed help? -

The reason for this whole thread was because, I last modded this 3DS when RXTools was a thing and completely forgot whether or not it modified the SYSNAND; Also if I could do a direct upgrade from 9.2 to 11.8 with a broken game card slot. NTRBoot isn't an option so I wanted to avoid any possible bricks. Normally asking advice before proceeding is the way forward? - In your world I guess not.

I see how you get your 15K comment count, with unhelpful replies like this. Well done.

O3DS is on 11.8 with CFW installed, thanks everyone.

b9s hoops. . . ? . . . lol. . . you skipped a9lh v1 huh

Haha, I was comparing to the time when RXTools ruled the 3DS CFW scene and modern times. Which would be B9S. Fun fact, I completely skipped A9LH and remained on RXTools. When B9S came in, that's when I decided to keep up with the times.

RXTools... Jesus, that brings back memories. The very first CFW I used on 3DS. Times were more simple back then when we didn't need to go through hoops to install Luma3DS and B9S. x3
This was also my very FIRST CFW for 3DS. I never had any problems but my nephews the one I was updating tonight, every 3-5 boots always crashed on the yellow screen...lol...

I'm allowed to be lazy, I spend the day helping out people like you and if I had to write long posts every time then I'd never have any free time ;)
But, in this case I felt like your post had already been answered pretty well by other people, so there wasn't much I could add.

have you been watching me *looks for cameras* this is my fun fact but to add to it i was regularly helping people with rxtools when a9lh came out and although i never once installed a9lh myself i still successfully troubleshot for many people who had problems with its installation

I remeber back when we could just do it through the browser without any exteral files

I mean... There's nothing wrong with taking the lazy route and having quick fun by installing RXTools. Pff, you know, with my spare 3DS, I may just install RXTools for the nostalgia... The frustration trying to boot it up with the HBL.

Don't do it! - I think it's cool, but now comparing to Luma; it's soooo slow...
