Yeharg, I really wish I had 007 cuz I saw that method on that one website that Jax (sorry if I forgot D':) posted earlier.

From what i have read it works with other games, you just have to modify the guide to fit that disc. I read that someone did it with Ratchet and Clank once.

Hm, so if I burned an image onto a blank disc, would I have to have the same commercial disc as the burned game? Or do I have to just have any commercial disc and burn 007?

If you were doing with 007, you would need the actual game, then a burned copy of the same game with the section that requires "patching" so when you swapped it and loaded said patched section it would trigger the exploit.

You need the same commercial disc as the burned game. Ex : If you use 007, you'll need a 007 iso. If you use Ratchet, you'll need a Ratchet iso.

My PS2's lens is broken. I think I'll try to use frrrmcboot with another PS2 to play games on a USB hard drive. Does someone knows where I can find an up-to-date game compatibility list for USB hard drives ?

EDIT : Oh, and does freemcboot works with PS2 slim ? I've a fat one, but if I borrow my friend's PS2, it will be a slim one.

don't think so because if you just burned the same disc whats the point?
i think you'll need 007, im also looking for a way to play isos with all
that modding on my ps2.

I think the oldest game I own is Barbarian.

My only concern is the patching, it's probably different, huh? And the fact that you have to reach a save in 007, but in Barbarian I'm not sure where I'd have to stop.

I also have Oni and Reign of Fire. They seem old, but I'm not sure 2001 old.

You sound confused.

The 007 method works by loading a commercial disc then swapping it out for a modified disc. Then when it loads the Driving.ELF it instead loads the FMCB installer from the modified disc. You would then install FMCB to a memory card (note that this will format your card, so use an extra or backup your saves).

If you have a memory card with FMCB installed you just need to have that in the ps2 and fire it up. It then adds a bunch of options to the ps2 home screen, like ESR, HDLoader, and a few others. Then you can use ESR to boot burned ps2 discs.

Hm, maybe I am confused...

Alright, I'm gonna read over this tutorial and then see how this goes down. Hopefully this will be tested by the end of the night...

I highly doubt that.

Ugh, PS2 has to be so difficult. I guess I'll just have to wait until I get one of these games, Swap Magic, or a cheating device :l

If I do end up softmodding, I can't really purchase anything because I don't have I'm looking at this PS2 Game Swap Trick.

Anybody that probably knows more about this than me can reccomend me a way of softmodding my PS2?
i have personally performed the game swap trick (with 007, agent under fire) and it works great, just a few tips to help you out...

-first follow the instructions on the freemcboot site for making the modified disk...
Code:
Step 1
1. Make a .iso image of 007 Agent Under Fire using dvd decrypter or imgburn.
2. Extract the uncompressed BOOT.ELFÂÂfrom the uLaunchELF rar and rename it to DRIVING.ELF

Step 2
1. Use Apache to open the .iso image u made.
2. highlight "DRIVING.ELF" in apache on your right side
3. select "ISO Tools" from the tab above, now select "Change TOC for Selected File", change the "Size (dec)" to 915196, don't change the LBA. This is the file size of the "uncompressed BOOT.ELF". (if your using a different uLaunchELF file, right click the file on your pc and select properties, the first "Size" is the size in bytes. This is the size you need to use in Apache)
4. with "DRIVING.ELF" still highlighted, select "ISO Tools" again, now select "Update Selected File", select the DRIVING.ELF file that was ulaunchelf's "uncompressed BOOT.ELF" you rename,ÂÂit will say "selected file replaced".
5. Burn the edited ISO to disc with DVD Decrypter / IMGBurn

-open up your ps2, unscrew the top of the metal disk drive shell but keep it on the disk drive
-load up 007 and go into the level select menu
- take off the top of the disk drive shell, swap disks with the modified one and put the top half of the disk drive shell back on
- wait ~5-10 seconds for the drive to start spinning again then just go into the second level (the driving one) and uLaunchELF should come up...
(do not go into level 2 until after the disk starts spinning or else your ps2 will just freeze..)

once uLaunchELF has loaded just follow the steps from the freemcboot guide again
CODEYou should now see the uLE main screen and from there you can install FMCB off your USB stick.
-- Ensure the USB stick is connected. Press O button for the FileBrowser in the uLaunchElf screen, move down to mass:/ and hit O, then move down to select FREE_MCBOOT.ELF and hit O to run it.
edit: added the steps from fmcb guide to make it a bit more understandable

note: earlier, somebody in the thread stated that fmcb is compatible with all models of ps2, to my knowledge, IT IS NOT
IIRC, only one version of the slim can even boot from mc and that version requires a memor32 to be softmodded..

Next time you are at gamestop buy an extra ps2 memory card. Find someone to install FMCB to it for you and send it to them. I got one from a guy at Psx-scene, i just had to send him my memory card an an envelope to send it back to me. Overall cost was around $10 including the memory card. Much cheaper than a copy of ICO. Not that i downloaded it or anything

Hm, so could I send my memory card to anyone here? How much would it cost me probably?

Cuz I have a memory card that I wouldn't mind sacraficing.

Temp should offer services for people like psx-scene does. Or not. It depends.
When I did the swap trick, I literally just realized earlier that day that I have had a copy of 007 Agent Under Fire sitting on my shelf for 4+ years and I never realized.

Checking that list again today, I now realized I've had a copy of Socom Combined Assault as well. :x

I'd offer, but i havent a clue how to install it, lol. I'll point you here though.

Hm, so I should just register and PM one of the guys? Seems strange, treading unfamiliar territory, lol.

Alright, do you have anyone else that you've done this for? Can never be too sure, ya know?
