Is it possible to mod the wii using an SD card, but then play bakcups without it?
Things such as Wii flow dont seem to work without my SD card, even though I have it installed as a separate channel :S

In essence I want to play backups without an SD card sitting in my Wii.

Thank you!

yes its possible, u just need a compatible hard drive properly formatted as fat32

ModMii has a usb-loader setup guide that has all the info you need, including links to a compatibility list and instructions on formatting your HDD as FAT32

I use my wii without SD card all the time. cfg usb loader located on the HDD and a forwarder pointing to the USB drive = profit.

Oh ye, my (probably out of date) Wiiflow works fine without SD card as well (also located on my HDD).

So the SD card isnt needed. But on the other hand, theres little reason not to use it (Im just too lazy to plug it in again haha)

But its worth mentioning some apps wont work without an SD card. HBC, to my knowledge, can only be started from an SD card. Some emulators doesnt like usb loading as well. etc etc.
But for just usb loading Wii games, it works just fine.

HBC can only be installed using an SD card as all exploits need one, after that you don't need one.
All the emulators I've used work with USB only as does usbloadergx

I ment after the modding obviously. As in, you can only boot HBC using an SD card and not move it to USB storage and boot it from there (again, after the modding)

HBC is installed as a channel on the nand. I see no reason why it would need a sd card once it's installed.
It will show all homebrew on the usb drive apps folder if it can't find a sd card.
bootmii needs a sd card, but it's not a program you need very often. If you have the card bootmii folder, you can insert it when you need it.

Well thats fucked up then.
My HBC refuses to boot without an SD card (just gives a black screen and then returns to SM after a couple of seconds).
