Thank you to all those of you who took part in the historic RuneScape Referendum, which ended on Friday. We received an incredible 1.2 million votes, with a united 91% of you voting for the restoration of free trade and the Wilderness. We have heard your call and will be restoring these much loved features to RuneScape on Tuesday 1st February.

The clock is ticking and you have just two weeks to get ready for this monumental update. To help you prepare, we will be releasing a series of guides, FAQs and expert advice about the Wilderness and free trade, so that players both old and new can get ready for this epic release.

Now it is up to you to prepare for battle, level your account, gear up your armour and equip yourself for the ultimate Wilderness experience.

There is just one question left unanswered: are you ready?

Is this a good thing for anyone that still plays? The reason they removed it was because Real World Trading almost killed the game. Lets hope there new bot detection actually works if the bots return.

RuneScape only started winning awards and getting in the Guinness book after they removed wilderness PKing and unfair trade so this seems like an entirely retrogressive step. I'm not sure it was entirely wise of Jagex to put the future of a multi-million pound game in the hands of it's players, given the mentality of the average RuneScape player. They should have left this decision for grown-ups.

Hopefully when it all goes tits-up they'll have the humility to reverse this decision sooner rather than later.

Got me and alot of older players to come back......
Its been a while....Hope I can get back into it likes i was in early 06...

And the bots didn't ruin the game.....they actually made things easier for me....made my supplies cheaper so I could do barrows for less

yes return of free trading!
Now if I decide to close an account, I can give my stuff to my friends!
*Picks up best armor and weapons that are hand-crafted* It's time to kick *** and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum!

Wilderness Time Baby, yeah!

I wonder if the return of PVP wilderness will remove those stupid overpowered ghasts! I hate those things!

hehe i may just come back to runescape though i am quite bored with it... many fighters will stay longer and its teh people who are gonna play even more that voted yes so i dont think it was a bad step by RS... its not like electing a president u know

You really think they didn't already know the outcome would be "yes" when they decided to make the poll?

I mean it's a 91% yes, and they run the damn game. I think they're aware that the vast majority of players (both current and the large number who quit due to the removal) would vote yes, they knew this would pass. They're just pretending they didn't so as to not piss off the No voters.

I think they can do this. It's not 2007 anymore, their technologies have vastly improved (including detection of bots) and their other problem was fraudulent credit cards being used to pay for memberships for gold farmers, and then Jagex had to pay the chargeback fees and shit. Well, paypal and such have much better security now than they did a few years ago, so that's no longer an issue either.

Before you claim that there's still botters, know that a normal player using a bot to train is just going to get himself banned (or stat resets, they still do those when it's old players), the actual problem was gold farming bots, which is a different breed than the botting people complain about today, for many reasons.

Yeah. They claim each update is months in the making so for this huge change to come two weeks after the poll makes me think it was cut and dried right from the start. I still think they're prostitutes.

Unlike other updates they really need player feedback for this one, and they can't get that until players find out about the update.

All the new stuff that's come into the PKing world, it needs to be decided in a case-by-case basis what should stay, what should be banned (and how), what needs to be changed, all of that.
