I'm pretty new to the DS scene but i've got a M3, a passcard 3 and a DS Lite (had a GBA SP which was stolen a couple of years ago

). Now i'm looking for some nice RPGs for both GBA and DS. I've searched the forums but the threads are getting old and i hope there is some fresh released RPG for DS

.

In my mind a RPG is a game where you:
* Have a bunch of characters who walk around in forests, cities, mountains etc
* Buy or find weapons, armor and items etc which you equip you characters with
* Leveling up your characters
etc

As you may notice, this is a description of games the Final Fantasy series (didnt like Final Fantasy Tactics though). These are games that i found in other threads:

* Mario and luigi partners in time (DS)
* Mario and luigi super star saga (GBA)
* Lost Magic (DS)
* Golden Sun I & II (GBA)
* Pokemon (GBA)

I finished Golden Sun I a couple of years ago and i didnt enjoy it as much as the FF games, Phantasy Star games or Chrono Trigger. Is the second game better than the first?

Are there any more RPGs out there worth to play?

I dont consider Advance Wars and similar games as RPGs btw.

i can highly recommend Riviera: The promised land. it's the only gba game i have played trough a couple times already. I also highly enjoyed
Lunar Legend. And Boktai 1/2 were both amazing, altho they were more Action Adventures then real RPGs.

Hell, you should a least try Fire Emblem... while not technically an RPG, it's by far the best RPGesque game I played on GBA

As for GSN, the second game is better than the first, yes (longer, wider, you can traver in ships, lot of more stuffs... and if you at least enjoyed the story, you could finish it.)
however the game enjoyement is the same as the first one...

- Sword of Mana
- Breath of Fire 1/2
- Since it's a reference for you, Final Fantasy I, II and IV are out, and III (DS remake), V and VI will be released this year. Just in case you didn't play one of these or wanna replay with bonuses ^^

I've played Children of Mana a little, and to me it looked like nothing but hack'n'slash. Not sure it technically qualifies as a RPG...

You could also get some emulators and play all those NES, SMS, GB/GBC classics again.

It has stats, weapons, equipment. That's enough to qualify as a RPG. Not every RPG has to have random battles where you just stand around and select commands.

I enjoyed sword of mana a lot and highly recommend it especially if you try completing the mini-missions.
Funny thing is Castlevania also comes to mind when mentioning the word RPG.

i love this little game. If you like RPGs, it's hilarious and worth the download.

Get it!

and as for Mega Man BN, i liked MM battle network 3 the best.
also i think they should rename "RPG" to "MBG" (Menu Based Game) where most of the game action and dialogue is based on menus. This way, things like final fantasy wouldn't get grouped in with Castlvania.

My favorites so far that I've played on GBA/DS:

Fire Emblem (any)
FF Tactics Advance, Dawn of Souls, IV
Breath of Fire II
Zelda: Minish Cap, Link to the Past
Tactics Ogre: Knights of Lodoss
Golden Sun
Breath of Fire 2

Yet to, but plan to get around to eventually:
Lufia
Shining Soul
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Lunar Legend
Lost Magic
Riviera

Didn't care for Megaman Battle Network or Sword of Mana.

I think there's a emulator you can use to run SNES backups on the NDS, anyone reccomend this?

Some good @#$# just on the horizon though!

I hadn't tried Riviera so I couldn't really understand why you would want to replay an rpg several times. So I did a late night session yesterday and reached chapter 3. Wow I rarely played a game that makes you want to redo the last decission more ofter per minute. I've resisted so far, no loading, but I too can see me replaying this game after I'm done.

Lina: Oh how cute, a squirrel
My choices:
- Is it a squirrel?
- Not as cute as you are!
- hmm okay.
Me chose option 2.
Lina: Really? *heart up*
Me: Yeah
Fia: *heart break*
Serena: *heart break*
Me: I was just kidding.
Lina: *heart break*

... Number of girl companions screwed up with: 3 out of 3

yes, it IS an RPG
the only standart RPG it hasn't is screen change on battle, that's why it tends to be an A-RPG, but the RPG part remains
[_ _ _]
It's an Adventure game, like Zelda.

All genres are formulaic, different formula different genre.
RPGs have princesses lost in time and young heroes riding on chocobos

golden sun 2 is better than the first one I'd say, but its still pretty much the same formula, I think they did a bit more work with character development though

and I have to say I think M&Lpit was complete garbage, play the first one and forget the second one exists
