On average, I have around 20 to 25 roms on a 1gb microsd (with trimming on my supercard).

And It's my guess that trimming won't let you use the rom to its full potential on slot 1 devices, since you'd be editing the file and it wouldn't be a 1:1 copy anymore.
What's considered "full potential?" I've trimmed about 25 roms and put em on my R4 and I haven't noticed anything different vs. a clean copy of the rom.

there is no difference provided the trimmer dosen't lop off the last few pixels of a sprite. Which can happen using the "easy" method but is mostly not a prob

There is normally a fixed size developers follow 32,64,128 etc. This doesn't mean the game itself for example contains exactly 32mbit of code. Therefor they will add if neccesserly, some empty bytes to round it up. A trimmer will simply remove those empty bytes and that's all.

March of the Minis? I don't know for sure though. There shouldn't be anything different.

If patching cripples a game from certain features, could trimming do the same (hypothetically)?

Not really. Trimming is just removing empty data. Patching is adding or altering data.

Thanks Katalyst for the info

Trimming ROMS seems to be a really simple process. I will start trimming all my ROMS so that I can just load them up when I get my R4 in the mail (any day now!).

I went through most of my roms and trimmed them one by one using the r4 trimmer before i knew about the ds-x manager. havnt tested them yet since I dont have my r4 yet.

I went ahead and trimmed the original roms that i dl'd with ds-x manager as well just to compare them with the file sizes of the r4 trimmed roms.

Looks like all the r4 trimmed roms are slightly smaller in size and loading them into the ds-x manager shows that they were all over trimmed(highlighted in red).

I think i'll probably just use the ds-x trimmed roms when i get my r4 to be on the safe side.

yes, ive used both and the ds-x version is by far superior and extremely painless (batch trim/better gui)

They probably were over trimmed. I used the R4 trim tool for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and my Pokemon never evolved.

Hiya! I have a supercard and super key for my regular ds.

Right now, I am using their program (Super Card v.2.58 For SD Version). In the Options tab, there is an "Enable Compress" selection (which I guess is for trimming), but it won't allow me to checkmark the box next to it. I don't know why *shrug*

Does it matter which trimming program I use? For instance, would I also be able to use this:

Code:

Ok, one big question will this modified "code" work for the DS-X Manager with the m3 Simply, or is there another code to use specifically for the M3 Simply?

I think what he's asking is, does the DS-X's trimmer work with the M3 Simply?
Thanks for that translation, I thought he asking something else.

Anywho, I don't see why it wouldn't. Apparently, if it works for R4 and R4 and M3 Simply are pretty much the same thing, I'm sure it would. Not like it's really doing anything specific to the rom that singles it out for a certain flash card. It's just removing data.

it does the exact same thing as the m3 and r4 trimmer. it removes the extra padding from roms (unused data). you shouldn't have any problems using the ds-x trimmer.

you don't need the source code it just shows how ds-x manager trims the rom. Just download the compiled version that I linked to and use it.

Well after reading Kryptonic post #27 it seems like the R4 trimming ROM tool might be taking out alittle bit of the actual game data as well? If this is true then which ROM trimming tool do we use/which one is safe?

is it possible to use a save file generated by a trimmed rom in an untrimmed rom?
in case you find unexpected limitations with trimmed roms
