the team has managed to master converting the system menu files..the health screen remains to be done.

other than that mate we are cracking on nicely, am tryna to nail the health screen as we speak.

looks like day 3 for me boys lol, gonna have to get the Tassimo out lol

In regards to your post I think you are 100% correct. It doesn't take all that much time to actually do some research. The guide was fine, other than maybe a stray typo and the center aligned formatting that bothered me, it got the job done. Following guides and info here as well as a few google searches, I was able to go from 3.4 virgin Wii, to 3.2 with HBC, Gamma 002 fix/cIOS249 and SoftChip/cIOS248 (for Rockband 2 compatability if you're wondering), and now SoftMii/Riskii without asking for help. Shit, I don't even think I was registered. The info is out there, just most people on the internet would rather be spoon-fed than let their fingers do a little walking and their eyes a little reading. Example: The guide says "READ THE FULL GUIDE AND END NOTES BEFORE INSTALLATION OR BELIEVE ME YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS OK.!!" yet how many times did the Preloader question come up.

I think the guide should be made longer and less easy to follow maybe people will take the time to actually read the whole thing first.
I guess I'm a different type of person though, I like knowing what things do and why we take each step rather than only be concerned with the end result.

patching ALL ios with the hacked DIP module IS risky and should remain like that in people's brain

maybe the operation itself is not more risky that any wad installation but you have no idea what could happen with later nintendo updates with all those patched IOS or system menu floating around in your wii

who can say for sure that crediar's preloader would not be affected itself ? and how do you plan to reinstall all your backup ios if even the patched menu can not boot anymore because of a screwed ios or NAND filesystem ?

I predict an increase of bricking with the next update because an increasing number of "i don't wanna know how that stuff work lol, just wanna play my backupz" people are installing this like this was the "perfect & safer" softmod solution but have no idea of the real risks


sure you could say "do NOT update your Wii anymore, stay in 3.2 forever" ... but the experience shows that a lot of people will still update anyways either because they wer uninformed, not careful enough, forced to, stupid... (pick your choice)


I don't wanna sound against this hack because it's still useful for a lot of people who KNOW what they are doing
just thinking that presenting it like the "ultimate & safe" solution to play backups is a bit presomptuous and certainly not true

Hey guys, I have had a good read through these forums/posts but can't find a definitive answer to what I would like to do. I want to install this softmod rather than the gamma channel I currently have installed. My current setup is:

Wii 3.2E
cIOS249-IOS36-rev07
Twilight Hack - HBC - Backup Launcher Gamma
Starfall Installed

My question is - Can I just go ahead and install this mod with my current setup? what do I need to remove or do I need to revert my Wii back to stock and start over. Any help would be most appreciated.

Guys, I think the issue here is that you are using a lot of knowledge and experience to create a very easy to use pack which is doing many things in one go. Unfortunately if a n00b (like myself) does what you say and follow the guide step by step we quite often do not know what each step is doing. No matter how well the steps are written (and they are) if I am told that the risk is potentially brick my machine then any uncertainty will generate a question. More often than not these can be answered and are over and over again in the thread but if I am not sure I will ask. You have created something that means people do not need to fully understand everything before giving it a go.....this will therfore attract n00bs with questions that are stupid to the people that have the knowedge and experience...not to the people that don't.

That said I agree some of the questions that are repeated over and over are done so because of laziness. I first started looking at this stuff at about 10a.m on Saturday morning and I reckon I could answer 75% of what gets asked based on the research I have done....however please don't forget that some things are not answered 100% and the risks are high so we will ask the experts, and it is much appreciated!!!!

I did not know the answer, but was able to use this tool and find one. Careful though, as the tool I linked is VERY powerful and seems to be very overwhelming for novices to use.

Main thing is that the old MIOS will let you use Gamecube Action Replay and Freeloader discs that were blocked in the newer updates.

I followed RiiSkii v2 to the letter and also did the optional MIOS step, however when I insert my Freeloader disc, it causes my Wii to Freeze up??

Yes you can - I had the same setup. Just proceed from Phase 2 - its that simple.
