Hacking RiiskiMod 1.0

I've been reading this site for the past 2-3 weeks or so... I had ordered a D2pro with screwdriver and all to install it. Never fancied the idea of opening up my Wii. When it arrived a couple of weeks ago, I found the threads on soft modding the wii. I sent my mod chip back and got a refund. Thanks for all your posts as it saved me from opening it up!!

On a 3.4E system I had installed HBC (of course) and Wiigators Gamma 0.3. Fantastic loader but was getting the 002 error on Need for Speed. Then came the 002 fix which I installed, which was even better. I thought it could not get better... but I was too scared to try and change the region to put on starfall.

This morning I installed this Riskimod new disc channel loader. It is SICK! I like going to the normal game channel to play a back up(and seeing a small picture of the game there.. Also not 100% sure what starfall does but should protect Wii from bricking. Thanks.

I do have a very annoying problem. Super Smash Bros (DVD5, not sure of the region, sorry) does not load up on the new disc channel. It shows up in the disc channel icon but when I try to start it BLACK screen and no game.
Funny thing is that it loads up on the Gamma loader?? Why is this?? How can I solve this? HELP!!! anyone else find this?

Other questions I have as I am clearly a Newbie to all this?

1) What does IOS stand for? What are they? Is it some kind of specfic port that a game uses with the Wii?

2) What is cIOS? What is the role of them? and CIOSCORPs, is that some kind of hacking team?

3) When is Nintendo bringing out a 3.5 update? Will this update screw it up for future hacking? (I guess you guys always find a way!)

4) I can't get to the config screen on my latest gamma launcher (has a picutre of Link on it. 002 fix ). I've holding all kinds of button combinations. Other loaders state to hold B or 1. What do I need to press?

5) I want to hack up my cousins Wii next. The first time I hacked my Wii, I installed ISO16 in wad manager, then had exit and find the Custom manager to install cIOS_fix. Then I did the shop channel fix. Will I have to do this again on my cousins Wii? or does the guide for Riskimod do all this as well?

6) With Riskimod installed can I keep wiiconnect 24 on? I'm prang that it might screw up my wii some how (by asking to update)? or am I paranoid?

7) If I buy a new game in the shop with, say a 3.3 or upwards, update am I right in thinking that Starfall will block it? What if it some new game really requires a higher firmware to run?

8) How is preloader different from the gamma launcher? I understand that preloader only works on 3.2, is that right? Is it my preloader allowing me to play games on the disc channel?

Sorry for the longwinded probably obvious stupid questions. I just like to know little things or it bugs me...

The guide is piss easy to follow like most of the guides on this site. Some of the questions that get asked are so stupid it even makes me laugh sometimes. LOL

What i'll probably end up doing is kinda editing your guide to fit their needs.

As for noddy:

1.I dunno what IOS stands for, but they're the system files of the Wii. Each game looks for a certain version of an IOS, so...

2. cIOS stands for Custom IOS, and they are, of course, edited/patched IOS to allow us to play backups.

3. No idea when, but you should almost never update. 3.5 will probably screw with us, that and anything above 3.2 doesn't allow the trucha bug(It's pretty essential for some things, i think starfall needs it)

4. Sounds like you installed a channel. It depends on which channel you have. Go check the place you got it from.

5. The RiiskiMod works for people who are starting from scratch, so just use this guide and nothing else, and it should work.

6.No you shouldn't keep WiiConnect24 on, as it will ask you for updates, and you could accidentally install, or who knows what Nintendo can do with it on?

7. Yes Starfall should block it. As for games requiring higher updates(IOS), that will be a while from now, probably easily updated by patching the IOS just as we did. Besides, the current games don't even use the latest IOS, so we're fine for a long while.

8. From what I understand Preloader isn't anything like gamma. Gamma launches backups. Preloader just allows you to load a certain program at boot(I think, i don't use it so I'm not sure)

2. CustomIOS- HAcked IOS with features added, they allow the backup loader to work, and ciosciorp is just the collection of all the alter IOS to enabled disk channel to load 1:1 backups

5.wait for clarky i cant remember if ios 16/ cios fix was are in the 4 seperate wads.
6.your fine to leave it on, just don't accept an update
7.preloader blocks it. games don't require firmware just IOS, and then we just install the IOS itself and all is well.
8. preloader is a program that loads before the system menu, allowing you to fix any system related brick that before required starfall and autoboot disc to run twilight hack etc. now you just hold reset and hit load hbc then load what you need to fix the problem. CIOSCORP is what is allowing you to play games in channel

I am stuck at the preloader 0.25 stage

No buttons work to allow me to install it says to reboot manually and hold down reset nothing happens other than going to the standard front screen.

step 20 and 21 trying to get to step 22

any suggestions

If you wanna learn how the IOS/cIOS was manipulated and developed for CIOSCORP and subsequently PreLoader read my long winded CIOS explanation. I've been told it makes thing understandable. I've also been told it's a total ramble though, so you can be the judge. I think you'll find the description although not without error, at least mostly correct.

My bricked Wii came back a month a month and a half ago. It was Forsaekn that had both his Wii's bricked that you might be thinking of. Or some other dude who just recently had to use Format to fix a couple Wii's he bricked dinking around with stuff. So I think you have become confused with too many hours releasing. But to play along...... "Their great! just got them back and I'm all happy now!"

sorry for the noob question thank you for answering it I did not see those steps in the readme file.

it worked and I floowed steps 22 and 23 but recievd error could not find hacks hacks.ini neither on fat nor on NAND and also could not find any hacks sytem version v289

I am jsut following the directions and need a little more hlep
