Reviving My Xbox 360

I recently got out my Xbox 360 out of storage after years of not using it. Unfortunately I've completely forgotten the ins and outs of how I was using it. I do recall that I had gotten it modded (didn't do it myself) and that I think I was told not to go online. I have a few games, but I am interested in getting some new ones and make use of the Xbox while it still works and money is tight. Can you help me refresh my memory on what I can and cannot do? A few questions spring to mind:
- Is there a way I can know what sort of mod I have?
- Does the mod affect what kind of pirated games I can play?
- Is the only way to play pirated games done by burning onto CDs? I used to do this, but again, completely forgot the process.
- I assume I could still play original games if I get ahold of any? Do you know any sites that sell original and/or pirated games (or better yet, allow downloading for free)?
- Should I update the mod?
- Can I download games and/or go online while playing?

Be careful when showing your console serial/ID etc to the public.

14699 is iirc, one of the dashboards that after the "final bullet drive FW" so if it's flashed, it's likely to have the latest flash on it if it's flashed
Does a bluescreen with white text pop up if you press the Eject button to boot?

You could look into XeBadUpdate, it's a softsploit that'll allow USB loading etc if you don't fancy spending money on a chip service.

Ah... thanks for the heads up! No popup when I power from the Eject button. It boots to the Xbox logo and opens the tray. Does this give any clues?

And also your KV (key vault) and CPU key comprising of either fuses or just the key. As other people can use it to unban their console.

Probably drive flashed, if you say it was modded before.

Not sure were to go from here. Will check the XeBadUpdate you suggested. In the meantime can I download games and put them on a USB, or is it only with CD you think?

If you have XeBadUpdate running, yes USB will work.
If you don't, no, burn discs

Yes, you can. You install Aurora onto the USB which is a custom dash for launching games. Create two separate folders on the USB: one for your Xbox 360 games and another for your OG Xbox games onto the USB. ISOs must be extracted into its own named folder as Aurora does not support ISO formatted games. To play burnt discs, flashed drive is required.

If you have Bad Update, you can indeed run unsigned code. Note that once you power off, then the exploit would have to be repeated. Otherwise, permanent solution would be chips.

Where can I find the KV (Key Vault) on XBOX360 that you mentioned to view the KV on my own machine

You'll need to have a hardware hacked machine for that.

A PC program can unpack your NAND with the tied CPU key and extract data like the KV from it.
Honestly, this something advanced users do, you'll probably never run into this nor need it.

You can't "find" it, you need to extract it from your 360 NAND on your computer.
I believe JRunner is able to unpack NANDs.

Please keep in mind that posting your CPU key in public is a bad thing to do.
