I didn't get notified. Maybe because the tag came after the post was made.

I haven't touched any nightly builds of RetroArch at all, so I can't tell right now. (Also I'm not home at the moment haha)

No, it's fine, turns out the issue is existent with Haxchi + Mocha, but installing HBL as a channel and loading CFW to get to that, it doesn't exist. Speaking of HBL as a installable channel, i can't seem to
find that thread lol.
There is an archive place that is well trusted that hosts a bunch of MAME torrents. So they are perfectly safe if you get them from there.

I meant torrents in general, I don't trust them as they're easy for ISPs and other agencies to track, no? Even with Peerblock (which messes up Steam client), IDK lol.

So there is still a chance that the nightlies might work as ELF/RPX with only Haxchi without CFW?

Something must have broke, he alluded it to something in the effect of how Haxchi loads HBL as an ELF, but how RetroArch as an app is RPX, some kind of conflict. Running WupInstaller to install the HBL channel (which
thread eludes me, I can't seem to find the version of HBL that you can install, if anyone has a link it'd be appreciated). As for a fix for the Haxchi+CFW conflict, I don't know :wacko:

I hope everyone is using the rpx versions of the files, and using the newest HBL to load the rpx files, either v1.4 or the 2.1 channel. That will give you the best results.

I thought 2.1 was incomplete or not recommended? Also, as far as the HBL being a channel to install, I can't seem to remember where to find that thread.

v2.1 IS the installable channel - https://github.com/dimok789/homebrew_launcher/releases
I could've sworn there was one you used CFW plus WupInstaller that installed an actual channel, and acted as a forwarder to HBL? I don't think that's it. I can't seem to find the thread and I want to be able to load RetroArch via that instead of Haxchi.
It isn't a forwarder, it's HBL installed and ran from System Menu.

Okay, so how do we installed it? Do we load Haxchi with CFW, load WupInstaller YMod and install it to NAND, but when we load up HBL, we have to load CFW every time? My only concern now is that Haxchi will be unusable (since it can't use version 2.1 RPX), I guess that I'd have to use Mocha and load the every time?

What is the advantage of installing hbl over having it on your sd card?

It doesn't break RetroArch as easily. RA 1.5.0 breaks when used with Haxchi and CFW (when you hold down B), I'm not entirely sure how this is going to work, esp. if we have to load CFW every time
that we want to load the HBL channel, ugh.

@brienj How does this work, exactly? I have to use CFW to load the RPX version of 2.1 HBL once installed as a channel, no? And once this happens, I have to load Haxchi plus CFW to use HBL channel, wouldn't I? I'm confused. Haxchi and 2.1 RPX don't mix well.

Why don't they mix well? I have an older version of Haxchi and load an older version of Mocha from the SD card to load a CFW, and then use the HBL channel to launch anything. The only thing the HBL channel has problems loading, are elf files, and to fix it not loading an elf file, you open Mii Maker, close Mii Maker, and then try again and it works. But you shouldn't be loading any retroarch elfs, you should just use rpx files.

But I don't know anything about the newer versions of Haxchi, or even the brand new Mocha with the shitty fat32 support. I use old stuff that WORKS.

SD card access on RetroArch is slow as hell without FAT32 (and yes, I do have a UHS-1 class SDHC card, 32 GB, there's no excuse for it to read so damn slowly). So I use the Haxchi with CFW (holding B, no need to load an extra like Mocha), I'm just trying to figure out how I can get both to be in harmony on the Wii U without bricking the firmware. I want RetroArch that works with Libfat, nothing more. I don't load ELF files anymore, I can be sure of that. When you install the channel, does it still need the 2.1 RPX? I'm sick and tired of seeing RetroArch crashing over and over, and this is the only solution I can think of.

Huh? Why would you think you can't use libfat if you used the HBL channel? Where are you getting all these crazy ideas from?

Libfat needs CFW, doesn't it though? And I load CFW via the HBL (like Haxchi and holding B as it starts up). Haxchi, however, does not work with HBL.RPX but only the Elf versions, or so I assumed. I'm trying to think how to go about booting into Haxchi with CFW in order to use the HBL custom channel, which requires CFW.

New to WiiU homebrew but I've had retroarch on vWii for years.
I guess I want some help with what configuration works best in order to run CPS3 games with retroarch.
A few things I've gathered here and there are that the current retroarch 1.50 is broken. Is 1.41 the last more stable version available and will it run CPS3 games?
Also, I haven't even tapped into hacking my WiiU yet because I read about a few different homebrew loaders and wouldn't know which one works best with retroarch.
I was told .rpx is better than .elf by a friend, so I'll stick to that. lol

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I want to play Warzard soon.

@the_randomizer I just saw your issue report on GitHub for the Wii U version.
What is the TL;DR version of all of it?
What did you narrow the issue to?

Essentially, something in the way RPX files are handled in Haxchi when used with its CFW and its HBL causes a conflict, making recent builds of RetroArch unstable. Installing the homebrew launcher as a channel and using that with CFW, however, seems to work fine (Mocha), it's all very strange. Using regular Haxchi, no CFW, it works fine.

Haxchi + CFW (and via HBL) = RA 1.5.x is unstable
Haxchi + CFW via actual installed HBL = somehow isn't

I don't get it, or why it's such a mess. I don't even know how to properly install HBL channel and still be able to use CFW.

What about Haxchi (HBL Autoboot) + No CFW?
Does it work that way?

I mean, simply launching Haxchi and then going straight to RetroArch.

That's what I meant, that itself works perfectly fine, it's just without libfat, some SD cards' read speed is slow as hell. But I tested it and it was stable. There's the channel version of HBL 2.1, but I haven't the foggiest idea on how one can use that and still use Haxchi + CFW to get it to work. Why RA breaks with this version, but not previous ones is an enigma.
