I want to go back to 1.2 and format my 4gb sd card.

It shows 2 partitions with windows disk management
  1. unallocated 1gb and is the emunand and can't format
  2. 2.73gb I can use and format.
How can I merge the 2 partitions again into 1?

I tried Panasonic SD Formatter and it shows only the 2nd partition with 2.73gb.

I ask because of the bricks I want to go safe with 1.2 firmware.

A partition manager like easeus or even the default windows tool should work. Find the device (should show both partitions as part of the device), delete both partitions (obviously back up whatever you need to first), then reformat the now unallocated space to a single FAT32 partition.

Just gotta be very careful that you've got the right device - wouldn't want to accidentally wipe a partition on your PC hard drive.

I can't do it anything to the unallocated partition with windows disk management.
I will try the easeus...

edit: Easeus did the job, thanks!

I really don't get this. I used Win32 Disk Imager to copy my N3DS 4GB-card to my larger 32GB-card.

Now have 2GB unallocated space, a 1,64GB visible FAT16-partition and after it 26,17GB unallocated space again.

1) Where do I find the EmuNAND?

2) What should I move where exactly and what should I resize?

Which space/partition is what exactly?

just use this to remove emunand partitions https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/index.html

if you want to move to a bigger card, just do this.

Emunand Tool doesn't work with the N3DS and that's why you have to use a workaround.

So my question is still open:

Oh! i get it now. 2GB N3DS EMUNAND, 1.64 GB filesysem(remaning space from 4 GB card), the rest is unused. try to expand the fat16 partition
Thanks, one additional question. Why does the EmuNAND only have a size of 2GB? Is this really just the space for the system-files and doesn't include installed CIAs etc.?

yes, most installed CIA go to the SD card under Nintendo 3DS / ID0 / ID1 / title Nintendo learned there leason form the wii to not install game titles onto the internal memory(it runs out fast) they get to keep it small or cost, and allow the user to buy as much storage space they need
