Hello!
In this thread I explain a new homebrew application idea :
An app where you send and receive message from/to others (like a chat), and that create a notification (with home menu notifications app) when someone send you a message.

Here is more details:
Now that we can do a lot of things with homebrew on 3DS, why don't make an application that can let you send messages to others like PictoChat3DS or DrawAttack, but to friends who own another 3DS with HB access?
And also, with latest ctrulib, we can get custom notifications, so we could get a notification when someone send us a message.
-> Yes I know, in order to send custom notifications, you had to launch an homebrew app like BirdWhisperer, because *hax isn't running in home-menu background...
So here is another idea: with themehax, can we have a sort of homebrew process that run in background, and then send notifications?
Thanks for reading, it can be a great app since swapnote (or letter box) is down.

BTW sorry, I don't speak English very well ;)

I think there will not be a lot of people on this app :P
yes, but PRIVATE CHAT... they were pretty much impossible on pictochat, and on there there wasn't the need to set the conections from/to specific 3ds.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

i think that this thing will never happen unless someone wants to pay for stuff

i'd guess that an actual background service with notifications is impossible, but in general, an irc client or like a port of any other open source instant messenger shouldn't be that impossible to do.
just unlikely someone puts in the work. still, wont hurt to suggest it in that homebrew suggestion thread?

we would need a server with the power level OVER 90000!!
Not if it was decentralized and P2P based. Not to mention, I for one (and I'm sure many others) would not use such an app that used a centralized server, allowing the operators to see and read every "private" message. @OP: This idea is somewhat feasible, but having it run in the background and send notifications is highly unlikely.

I dont see any problems with handling private chats by a server. The Server just need to route them or have a good load balancing. Depending on how many prople use it~
Wasn't there already a simular thread for a return of the message app?

the general problem with a server is that someone whould have to pay some money for it in some way (or let it run on some preowned server and waste a bit of that ones ressources)

Who are you, though, and why should we trust you? Seems like I'm the only one concerned with MitM security here. IMO, if Tox were ported over, that would suffice.

there is no way to trust any hoster. Why would you trust apple using there devices or Microsoft using Windows? If the application does what it sould, it's enough.
And two be honest? MitM? Really? On a 3DS Chat? Do you want to share private informations over it?
There are things where you need something encrypted... not here... nope... even if you really really want it.. for this kind, SSL with a Websocket connection would be enough..
But since you are more concern, why dont you get a Server and are willingly to share it for a project? Dont get me wrong. I understand you, but 1 free server> no server. It is always nice to have a donated server, even if it's only for the developmend period. ^^

I trust those two entities much more than a random forum user (especially one wearing a Guy Fawkes mask). Also, I do share my server. For a lot of stuff actually. I'm actually hosting the development environment for the Web based Pokedex a member here has created. Why wouldn't we need security for this, though? Just because it's for the 3DS?
