ok... i sort-of implemented decompression ( just a mimic of arm asm in C#
biggrin.gif
) ....
here http://theli.ho.ua/ds/culdcept_compression.7z (52kb) is a source+binary for decompressor along with a file ( "00316" ) this decompressor works with ....
maybe someone identifies this decompression algorithm?
frown.gif
(so i won't need to rewrite this in a readable form and try to figure out how to compress back)
any help appreciated, thanks.

well, ok ... if anyone wonders ... i've indentified compression scheme
it's lh7 (64 KiByte sliding window, with support of maximum 256 bytes of matching length. Static Huffman encoding + LZ)

so, for now the hardest part is done.
i'm waiting for a word from interested translators... since Glacius0 and choji are silent

or i'll just do google translate menu translation for myself

It's times like these i wish i could read and write in Japanese.. : (

Just letting you know that there are other people out here still that would love to see the game translated..

there is not much i can do in terms of translating....
since i do not speak or read japanese i was hoping to at least do crappy menus transation with the help of google, and translate the cards with the help of http://www.culdceptcentral.com/ ..
but now culdceptcentral is gone....

so ... i'll be waiting for glacius0, choji or other translator to show up

finishing translation tools in the meanwhile

Wow, this is great! Perhaps this is a dumb question, but are we ever going to see this progress from strictly an editing tool to one of the resident translators actually making a patch with it?

this IS a dumb question.
Unless previously showed interest or new translators show up - NO

I think my post was more a hint / prod at said translators than anything towards you. You've obviously done a great job to this point in reverse engineering as much of it as you have and coding a utility to make editing the ROM a possibility.

Congratulations Theli ! You did a great job !
I also hope that it will not be wasted by lack of translators.
I don't know a word of japanese, so I can not really help.

But maybe it is not necessay to know japanse to do the translation.

Google for translating card names
Then do the mapping bewteen the card text of xbox 360 and DS.

Cards' titles/effect/name/description texts are editable

Crests are also editable now
twiztidsinz, thank you for card list mirror.
Did you upload the updated tool somewhere? Or are you planning on working on it some more before releasing it?
You're welcome btw.

I took another look through the GoogleCache, and found an actual list of cards based off the changes.
I also noticed that the original card list I linked to (via GoogleCache) was no longer available.
I have mirrored all the lists (DS Card List, DS Changes and 360 Card List) here: http://ragnarokds.co.cc/culdcept/

Since people have access to the card lists, most of what needs to be done is what you said: get a rough translation of the names (Please be familiar with the game FIRST), match the translated name to the name on the list, then copy the info from the list into the translation tool.
You really don't need a translator for that, and I think that would be the bulk of the work.
With any luck, someone can do that, and then when translators become available, or even someone who is familiar with the game, can work on translating the menus and rules/instructions.
If someone who is using GoogleTranslate (Please be familiar with the game FIRST) to translate standard things in the game, or to transcribe the card info (Please be familiar with the game FIRST), I think it would take some of the load off the translators, because they can just go over the stuff that is already done fairly quickly to check for mistakes.
But the key thing to remember is, if you're going to do that and cannot read Japanese BE FAMILIAR WITH THE GAME FIRST!

Is it true that this game is pretty much a port of the ps2 version? If so, it should be fairly painless to go through a 'google translated' version using the ps2 version as a guide to fix what needs to be fixed. The poor man's translation...

As far as the cards go, if all you need is someone to do the grunt work and compare the google jibberish with the card list, I'll volunteer to do that.. really I would like to help any way I can.

i found out that file containing cards/crests 's descriptions seem to be dependent on offsets/sizes defined elsewhere (and i'm pretty tired of culdcept's internals already)...
so this is incomplete for now
QUOTE(DarthNemesis @ Mar 20 2009, 06:24 AM) Put up a spreadsheet and I'll pitch in.
i can put up a wiki, though i'm sure i shouldn't, since putting text back turned out to be incomplete as of now

What if the translated text is equal size (or inferior) to original size ?
Perhaps you could do the test just one card and crest to see if it works.
If yes , translators can do the this for all of cards / crests.

if there is no easy solution, I can understand you want to give it up.
But why not trying just on a small sample ?

That way people can work on getting the stuff translated/transcribed and then when you or someone who can work out changing the offsets, it'll be one less thing to get done. No sense in waiting to do things.

The poor man's translation...I have mirrored the data from CuldceptCentral. It should have most if not all the cards.
From what I'm to understand, it's similar to the PS2/360 version with changes made to the cards.
Not sure about the gameplay/menus/etc

Hopefully theli puts up a wiki or something with the extracted text.

It'll probably work if they are the exact same character length.
But it'll most likely be a huge pain in the butt to make it fit, if not impossible.
It would most likely be easier figure out how to change the offset size.

does anyone have a full list of the Culdcept ds cards? been looking everywhere but havent been able to find any lists
