So I ruined a 2ds xl while doing a hard mod.

Is it possible to replace the board with another 2ds xl board?

How about a 3ds xl board? Only asking because I was told the internals are the same.

First one is hard, the second, impossible.

Thanks.

When you say hard, other than the physical swap is there anything more I would need to do?

What makes the 3ds impossible? Not the same hardware? Or is it different software?

Looking at iFixit's teardown video unless you can buy a complete motherboard for less than a decent condition console I wouldn't bother. It looks like they consolidated almost the entire design to a single SoC compared to the N3DS XL's separate boards. Funny enough in iFixit's guide they actually break the black ZIF connectors that caused me to have to replace the motherboard on my original N3DS XL. Those things are a complete beginner's trap since they look like sockets you can typically close and open.

Thanks.

I'm able to find some broken 2ds xl s for about 60 bucks on eBay. Most just have a broken top screen so I should be able to part together a working unit.

I hope it goes well. As a tip, while you won't be able to salvage your saves if you can get the new board's serial # via something like 3DSident you should be able to transfer your NNID by calling Nintendo's customer support if that's something you need.
