I just bought a few new monitors and man can you see a brightness difference from the new ones and the ones I got a year ago. I'm a heavy smoker...is there any tricks to get some of that brightness back? Or is it possible that new monitors shine brighter right off the bat and slowly get less brighter?

I was thinking of hot boxing the new monitors...lol smoke like two cigars in a small room with the new monitors so they can catch up

I had the same plight a while back, went to a local PC store (Microcenter) and they had an LCD wipe/cleaner kit for $20, came with a cloth & some no-drip gel cleaning solution, and that stuff has worked wonders for my smoke-infested monitors. Worked great on my TV too.

Thanks for the link BobLaw unfortunately my monitors are much bigger than the sizes the site offers protection for.

@ AlerekNightfall I'll have to look into that. What was in the kit? Was it just screen wipes or something more?

Again I will not quit smoking, its not an addiction issue. I quit for 2 years for no problem when I went on a health kick but now I am happy being a fat S.O.B. I ENJOY smoking tobacco in many different forms for the enjoy of the taste. I actually just came to grips with myself to tell everyone to fuck off for making ME feel guilty about smoking. Its insane really how many people throw incite of "Quit smoking" around...like smokers are weak helpless creatures. I don't drink alcohol (well about 10 times a year), I don't do drugs, I just like to sit back and have a smoke with my morning coffee or while I work.

Why not say...don't own a computer? Wouldn't that be another viable option? Then you don't have to worry about your smokes ruining your monitors? I'm not too concerned about the smoke ruining anything though...I just want everything to be ruined equally

He enjoys it....don't suggest the man stops. Some people smoke because they are addicted, some people some because they love it.

I personally dislike smokers but I also think you should do what you love in life. Not do what life forces you to do (addiction).

Anyways as for the monitor itself, they usually dim over the years naturally. I don't think its because of the smoke. Especially if you have it set to bright most of the time.
