Hi,

I've recently received my new G6 Lite, and thought the tin was awesome. I've followed the readme provided with the software (downloaded latest): updated the card by copying the two files over, ran through update, installed U-Disk etc etc. I've managed so far to play with a calculator and get GBA roms playing. However, I have a strange problem which may be more related to Windows: when I plug the USB wotsit and card in, the mass storage device is mounted, but not assigned a drive letter so no apps can see it, including U Disk. I can see the volume in Computer Management -> Disk Management, with no drive letter.

I can assign a drive letter to it in Computer Management, which kind of works. Explorer doesn't like it tho - keeps telling me the drive is an invalid page, or taking me to the web IE 404 error. Plus, I have to do this each time and in each Windows session I can't reassign the same driver letter to the card.

I have two other USB devices plugged in - a Logitech mouse and a Seagate external HDD, which works fine as a 'driver-less' USB mass storage device.

I think I may try formatting the card, but does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks!

it's conflicting with winblows drive assignment, just go under computer management like you said to use disk manager and assign another letter. this happens a lot if you have mapped network drives.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Both drives are listed as being at Location 0, if that means anything.

Any idea whether this conflict be solved or avoided? Its a pain to assign a letter each time, plus as I mentioned explorer doesn't seem to like it anyway - I can get at the drive once as it mounts, but after that its no go - it doesn't appear under My Computer, and typing 'M:\' (for example) into the address bar just throws a 'cannot find' error.

I have just three other drives, excluding the G6 (one IDE multi-cd/dvd, one SATA and one external USB drive). Why a conflict? I've seen PCs with crazy numbers of removable devices!

Thanks again.

What version of windows are you using? Usually if you assign it once it'll be fine and won't complain. Let's say you assing it to drive r: or something.....everytime you insert that device, it should see it as R, windows remembers the devices you try to plug and pray. After you assing the new letter, the drive should be accessible...like I said this only happens for me when I have a bunch of mapped network drives. But I have seen it happen on other people's setup often.

Nope - I have to reassign it a different letter each time, as the ones already used look like they're flagged as in use until after a reboot. Even after assigning a new/different letter, explorer has difficulty opening it. The only way seems to be to 'Open' it from the context menu in Computer Management. Once this window is open, I have to use

sounds strange because you're telling me you can't even access the drive. How would mptutil help? Try the other posts here that flushes the main memory of the g6 and start from scratch and see if it helps.

There was another person having a problem that sounded almost exactly the same in another thread a couple weeks ago. I don't think he ever found a real solution either.

I wonder if there could be something wrong with your guys's (woo! bad English!) u-disks so that somehow they're not properly identifying themselves to Windows through the USB port. That's the only thing I can think of since as tama_mog said, while I've experienced this problem of Windows not assigning a drive letter with other USB drives I've had in the past, it was never so stubborn and impossible to fix as what you guys have described.

...word is bondage...

*didn't read whole topic only first post*

I had the EXACT same problem, haven't found a fix but if you restart your computer without the burner plugged in then all those ports you used before should have resetted and you can use them again, it's a pain but I've gotten use to it by now, frankly I'm just glad it works now I was leading towards me having a bad burner and sending it back XD

Control Panel, Administrative tools, Computer Management, Disk Management.

If you driver is recognized by you comp, it will show up there. And it is possible to switch letters to drives there.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Haven't got much further with this, but I have tried all the things mentioned above, ie:
  • I can see the drive in computer management -> disk management.
  • I can assign it a drive letter here, but Windows think the partition is 'inactive' and suggests restarting.
  • I can access it, but as Windows hasn't activated the partition its difficult with anything other than a cmd prompt, it seems.
  • If I remove the card then plug in back in, the disk management panel crashes, and when/if it doesn't I can reassign a different letter, as the ones I've already used are flagged as in-use.
  • A reboot de-flags drive letters.
I tried the burner and card on my mate's PC, and it worked perfectly. It was quite clear here that my friend's machine had detected the drive, and loaded/installed the default Windows drivers for a generic USB mass storage volume. I realised Windows on my own machine didn't kick-start the 'search for driver to install' wizard. I deleted the device, rebooted. Windows detects the device, but fails to install the drivers for a storage volume, I think. In the 'Safely remove hardware' dialog I see only 2 lines:

- USB Mass Storage Device
--- G6 U-Disk USB Device

whereas I should see a third line:

----- Generic Volume - (G:)

Perhaps down to my onboard USB hub, or something wrong with my install of Windows: I have some buggered, cached drivers Windows is defaulting to somewhere?

Who knows - will keep poking. Thanks again!

quickest solution = format and reinstall windows to tell you the truth it sounds like if you've already suffered so much messing with the plug and pray drivers.
