Hardware Remotes won't register???

Hey guys:

It's an xbox Slim Trinity. The remotes don't turn on the xbox. I can turn it on using the on/off button and I get to the main screen, but remotes aren't registering and therefore not working. Batteries are new. When I turn on the xbox, the green lights are not spinning in a circle searching for the remotes. I can make the remotes search for the xbox, but they don't find it either. I tried both remotes. Am I not doing something??

I know that the original ones work on IR.
No clue if the Slim ones also work on IR so try and point at the 360.
