if you're using Gateway's arm9loaderhax, restore and older NAND dump to sysnand (hold up and select "downgrade"), and switch to a standard arm9loaderhax fork instead of GW's(you should have otp.bin to use with SafeA9LHInstaller). also use Luma3DS instead, because rxTools does not support arm9loaderhax and does not get updates anymore.

If I don't have a nand dump from before doing the method on this thread, this can't be done?

I was hopping this would be way easier like swapping the boot.3dsx (from gateway) for ctrmanager boot.3dsx or something. :/

Also when you say another fork, you mean like homemenuhax? I would have to do the entire installation process?

I think Gateway would have forced you to make a NAND dump before going to 2.1.... do you really not have a "NAND.BIN" or did you delete it?

Still have it, I was considering one before doing all the process.
if this "NAND.BIN" of your sysnand is 9.2 or lower, restore it to sysnand (hold up and select "downgrade" at Gateway menu), which should remove arm9loaderhax.

do you have an otp.bin file at the root? GW should have dumped it while on 2.1.

I remember Gateway saying: restoring nand.bin to sysnand during the installation procedure.
So if I had 4.X before downgrading to 2.x, this will restore my sysnand to 4.x, correct? And I'll need to use MSET exploit to boot gateway?

And yes I have otp.bin file here.

yes it will put you back on 4.x if that's what your dump contains.

you might then want to go to 9.2 sysnand: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/9.2.0-Update

then use SafeA9LHInstaller: https://github.com/AuroraWright/SafeA9LHInstaller/releases

get data_input.zip and payload_input from https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-5-(arm9loaderhax) - merge the two folders so you have one "a9lh" folder at the root. put your otp.bin in "a9lh" and use SafeA9LHInstaller.

Thanks for this :)

Should I hold up during the boot sequence? That had no effect and it booted into emunand.
Holding up in gateway menu do nothing.

Using downgrade from gateway menu points that my console can't be downgraded.

hold L to get into the Gateway menu at boot, then hold up when you pick "downgrade".

Well, to let anyone know that may be in the same situation, do not restore the NAND.BIN created during gateway time machine method.

I'm kind of fucked it seems. After restoring it, it restored to 2.X and my 3DS boots directly into it.
Using the browser method to load go.gateway-3ds.com seems to trigger the exploit but I never get to see the menu, it's just the dragon logo.

I've found my previews nand backup but I can't flash it without gateway menu :/

stuck on 2.1? you can use OTPHelper on 2.1 to restore a different NAND dump.

https://github.com/d0k3/OTPHelper/releases

put arm9.bin and arm11.bin and go to http://dukesrg.github.io/2xrsa.html?arm11.bin

(also in the future to not use Gateway for NAND dumping/restoring, you can use Hourglass9, Decrypt9, or EmuNAND9 ;) )

yesterday I update my o3DS with firmware 4.4 + gateway emunand to install A9LH.
Before start follow Plailect guide, I make emunand(gateway) backup , a copy of SDCard, backup my cia game saves and format the SDCard, removing the emunand.

Now I have a luma3DS(Sys 11.0.0-33U on system settings) + A9LH + gateway payload and everything I test is working fine, but I have a few questions..

1 - I can restore the data from my gateway emunand backup? (like friends, streetpass, mii plaza, mii creator)
2- When Nintendo launch a new update (like 11.1, 12.x) o only need go in system settings and update? without any fear? Or I need wait a update from luna3DS/gateway payload or something like that before?

Just follow plailects guide..... gateways downgrades are horrible...

I only use Gateway. I want things to be simple. I'm not going to do something that potentially risky on a system that I'd have trouble finding another of. I don't have any way OTHER than Gateway. No menuhax, Cubic Ninja, or anything like that.

You have more of a chance bricking your N3DS using the gateway time machince than doing it yourself. Gateway skips alot of saftey steps that are needed if your console bricks. Gateway is nice and all but the time machine us doing alot less to prevent bricks than the guide. The time machine and the plaitect guide are both for a9lh. But the guide is wayyyy better. And if you cant get the tm to work and choose to not do the guide, then idk.

seriously, Gateway's tools are the real risky ones. whereas Plailect's guide gives you safer tools and process for downgrading.

things like directly downgrading sysnand on Old3DS are incredibly stupid. I can't really tell what it's doing on New3DS (does it verify the downgrade before flashing it to sysnand?)

So how am I supposed to do that without Cubic Ninja and will I be able to update the EmuNAND like I do with Gateway? Also, how do I keep my existing EmuNAND? That's the BIGGEST problem.

Keeping your existing emunand is easy, and yes you'll be able to update emunand.

How are you launching GW right now?
