I don't see a problem in switching to CIAngel, probably I'm just stupid but I understood it way faster than I understood freeshop.
Or just get the CIAs from that iso site

So do i use something like ciangel for now if i wanna test out new games or is freeshop not getting any new games to try?
At present, freeShop is still working and receiving new games (the freeShop cache was last updated two days ago), and title keys have no connection to freeShop and the repository for those is maintained by (a) different person or people.

It is worth wondering how long freeShop cache updates will continue, though. It's really not clear how the updates are occurring currently. Given Cruel's current circumstances, it would appear that cache updates are being automated on a server somewhere, since it seems unlikely he's still doing them manually. Does anybody have control of that server in order to continue paying for its operation costs, etc.? I have no idea. Without somebody coming forward to tell us, it's hard to say how long freeShop cache updates on the current repo will continue to be provided.

That said, as we just discussed in the thread, the process of creating an updated cache isn't terribly complicated, so in the absolute worst case scenario, all it would take to "revive" freeShop if or when those updates cease would be for somebody else to start offering cache updates along with a fork of freeShop directing it to the new cache server. In short, freeShop will probably keep working in some form or other. You may need to update the app itself at some point if the cache server stops updating.

Ah nice. So then all that needs to happen is that the place where the caches and updates are downloaded from needs to be edited (should be easy enough) and then someone else can host the project, effectively removing TheCruel from it. Since the taboo has already been set, it might be useful to rename the new project to something else (to prevent the oh-so paranoid idiots from losing their shit at the fact that the mods condemned the user but not their tools). How about say... titleShop?
freeShop is a name that sounds good (And sounds similar to eShop). titleShop.... Not so much.

Meh. It was a suggestion. If anyone takes up the project, it DOES need a new name. The old name has been sullied too much imo with Cruel's conviction.

I just checked something. It isn't even a cache server. Cruel used a GitHub repository to update freeShop: https://github.com/Repo3DS/shop-cache/releases. My current best guess is that the repository scripts generate the three zip files that are shown in each release (jpg/png/etc1) and that Cruel uploaded them either manually or through Travis-CI (not entirely clear, but the travis.yml highly suggest that he published them through Travis).

Alternatively, we could keep the old name and release update 3.0, "Holy Water Edition" (Changelog: associates program with theCruel and cleanses the application of all wrongdoings limited to him). Either that or retitle it "PureShop" and have the same changelog. :ha:

Joking aside, I know there might be a desire to change the name, but do we really need too? The name "freeShop" explains what the program does entirely, whereas a name like "TitleShop" would kinda confuse people. We could go for a total UI coloring overhaul, call it DarkShop (like the darknet or something).

Or how about weShop? That would kind of get the message across that it is now maintained by the community instead of just theCruel or Ninty.

Y'know, a dark theme would be really nice. I never liked the light theme freeShop has (because to me white on black is easier on the eyes: See my usage of DarkTemp). If anyone takes up the project (I won't do it since I can't code aside from writing bash scripts), I'd definitely recommend them to add a Dark Theme.

The pirate bay for the 3ds

So for the past few pages, all I've been seeing is bikeshedding and no actual ideas for continuing the project.

Is anyone here actually interested in improving freeShop instead of just throwing out garbage ideas for a "new name"?

Yea, DarkShop ("like the darknet") is kind of a bad idea tho especially if you dont want to be connected with Cruel, since most cp stuff in done in the darknet

Urgh. I started that by accident. Personally, I'd recommend adding theme support to freeShop. It's a not uncommonly requested feature and I think it could serve as a good springboard for any interested new developer to nicely establish themselves.
