Am I getting this right?

US 3DS = plays ASI and US games
ASI 3DS = plays ASI, US and JAP games
Euro 3DS = plays EUR games only
JAP 3DS = plays JAP games only

Waiting for replies... Please and thanks! :D

Sorry to spoil your bubble, OP.
US 3DS = US games only
ASI 3DS (repacked US 3DS by maxsoft with no club nintendo) = US games only
Euro 3DS = plays EUR games only
JAP 3DS = plays JAP games only

NA 3DS = US games only
EUR 3DS = EUR games only
JAP 3DS = JAP games only
ASI 3DS = US games only, no Club Nintendo
KO 3DS = Customized firmware, some games released as Region-Free, some region-locked to KO (I believe it also encompasses Taiwan and Hong Kong)
iQue 3DS (China) = Exclusive to China, plays only iQue 3DS games

As far as I know, that'd be all.

Well, there's also AUS 3DS (ok, technically it's the same as EUR 3DS - playing EUR games (and "AUS") only).

Oh? They have a different serial? I didn't know - you learn everyday, or so they say. :P I thought that the "AUS" ones are just EUR repacks.

And I don't think there is a such thing as ASI games, only ASI 3DS.
Well, we have some here. They seem to be just like US games but has a seal mentioning some Asian countries. Also, they have no CN codes in them. Cheap bastards.

@Sethmaster, Foxi4: Thanks... I have an ASI 3DS I wanted to play Project Mirai because I read something about ASI 3DS playing JPN games... Guess I'll just cry here in the corner...

I'm still not fully convinced its for every game. DSi region locking has left me stunned.

Pokemon Black/White and their counterparts B2/W2 the Japanese games were region locked. But the US and EU versions weren't. You could play a US version on a EU and Jap console and vise-versa.

So there may be some games that don't have region locks in the west and no ones bothered to look.

This is strictly about the region of the hardware, not the consoles themselves. As you and me both know, Pokemon B/W and B/W2 were actually either "JAP" or "EUSA", which was a different software region entirely. Such "monstrosities" may of course be released, but they're singular exceptions. ;)

'AUS only' 3DS games don't exist. Australians get European 3DS's (I mean that in the literal sense, the consoles are labeled "CTR-001(EUR)" and have the English/French writing on the back), and get games which are EUR region locked. "AUS" is only printed on the game box and label, if the game was part of an "Australia only" batch, they are still playable on all EUR 3DSs because they were region locked for, well, EUR 3DSs.
