@CeeDee requested an IPS patcher for the 3DS, and I did it! Yay ^_^

There's nothing fancy in this program... Press X to select the ips file, press A to select the ROM file, navigate into the directory you want to place the output file to, then press START, enter a filename, then watch the debug output while the program is patching the ROM :P

Download links have been removed because all copies of the binary seem to be lost.

Sorry; someone's got to ask... :P
... What does it do? I know that IPS is a screen type, but this program "patches" the IPS, so I'm assuming it means something else?

Anyhow, an outstanding job! :yay3ds:

IPS, as in IPS the ROM hack patching format... Not IPS the screen type.

If you can install CIAs, then yes.

IPS files are generally used for ROMhacks, because it's legal, because it doesn't involve distributing the whole ROM with it. Also, you can't reverse-engineer the original file from an IPS patch file, so that's another "plus" in this case.

Sadly you can't on a vanilla (unhacked) 3DS system, sorry :(

Edit: @CeeDee, you ninja! :ninja:

Oh; I've only known xDelta-type patches (I remember from an AC:NL ROM I had to apply an xDelta patch to), but thanks for clearing that up for me! :D

Xdelta is used for newer ROMs usually, while IPS is common for older ROMs like NES, SNES, GBA, etc.

Differently produced 3DS systems have 2 different screen types, IPS and TN. People get into a big fuss over getting IPS screens.

Oooooh, I see :P

My new3DSXL has TN screens, yet they have a wonderful quality, so I don't see the fuss either :/

Any benefit other than comfort using this instead of patching from Windows? It is faster?

idk, lol :P

But it's WAAAY slower on the 3DS... like, it takes <1sec to patch the ROM, on the 3DS it takes ~30seconds...
(like 3dsconv takes a second to convert a half a gigabyte ROM to cia, yet on the 3DS it takes 25minutes :P)

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?

although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
