Alright, two months ago I updated to 9.9 without thinking, and thought I had a NAND backup. Turns out I did, but lost it due to PC formats.

My question is how I could search my entire hard drive to find the lost file, without using any paid utilities.

Edit: wasn't in there :(

If you have to rely on a recovered file backup you're screwed, recovered files get corrupted many times. Didn't you copied it anywhere like on a usb or uploaded it anywhere? If you didn't, every file you create in your hardrive is slowly overwriting all your old files including the nand backup... Try using recuva like said before and get the status of the file. Btw how long did you formated and what have you done to the drive since then? (installed OS/ transfered data to it...?)

That'll be tricky, because it's encrypted there isn't any recognisable byte string to search for. Feel free to try any good recovery tools, but your odds aren't good.
