I restored a Windows 7 image on my laptop which I made last year. I backed up all files but I apparently missed a folder with about 7 MS excel files.

Now is there a software i can use to recover these files?

The only one I can think of is Piriform's Recuva. Not sure how well it will perform though. I had mixed results the last time. Though I suppose it's better than nothing.

    Thanks guys.

I tried Recuva, it showed the files but they have been overwritten i.e. windows defender files and vlc etc

I tried testdisk and it didnt list the files I was after.

I take it there is no pint in looking for other software to do the job because recuva has shown it has been overwritten?

Yeah if the files have been overwritten, it'd likely be too much time/effort/money to try to get them back.
