Yo, GBAtemp users!

Right in the middle of using it, my 80GB hard disk just decided to stop working. It's connected to my computer via USB. Its a Western Digital brand, salvaged from my old laptop and connected to an old USB adapter from a broken external hard disk.
(I was uninstalling GTA IV when it crashed, but that does not matter.)

So i need a little help getting my data back. Not that its anything too important; just ALL of my games, ebooks, music, and stuff... Pain in the ass to start all over again...

I'm using 7 Ultimate, and I have tried the recover command. Results:

Some more info...

The data is not lost. I used this program to scan the disk, but I need the full version (need to PAY; don't want to.)

Seems as though some of the file system data has been damaged... The disk is recognized as RAW. My precious data is still there. And that stupid program wants me to buy the full version... Can't find a crack...

Before you suggest anything, here is some info on my system:
Type: Laptop
Optical drives: no
USB drives: 3
Serial: no
Parallel: no
VGA output: yes
Mouse: PS/2
Keyboard: Canadian Multilingual Standard
Boot from USB: yes
Hard disks: 1 (160GB)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
RAM: 1GB
CPU: Intel Atom 1.6GHz
Display: LCD 1024x600
Battery: 6-cell, 4 Hours
Manufacturer: HP
Valid Warranty: Yes, 2 Year

Can anyone kindly help me out or at least point me in the right direction?

Thanks for your time, Frute.

don't know everything about data recovery or your linux skills but this would be the point i would connect it to a linux pc to see if i can access the files linux just has a way of viewing files that windows won't let you
so that you can copy to a safe place and reformat

give me the name of the program and i bet i could find a crack in less than two minutes

Have you not looked above?
He's just going to google for a crack. I know i have that crack sitting around on my computer somewhere. Fantastic app, life saver most of the time.

I found the retail version and biy I really need my HDD to be registered. It only shows up as MASS STORAGE but there are no letters yet. Will try my laptop.

Try looking in torrents....I found it there...That is if your ISP supports torrentz

EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 4.3.6

im not a novice pirate been at this for 10 years now
put it this way if the fbi was to see my pc i would make the news
and P.S. torrents are kinda slow compared to whats available now
unless your router allows you to forward ports right

Try getting a program called 'GetDataBack NTFS'. It's one of the best data recovery apps I've used.
If that's the cmd program that I remember then heck yeah it's frikin awesome. God send.

0_0 whoa so many replies.... I'll try GetDataBackNTFS and see how it goes.

If you want to know what program I used to scan it, its "EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard" or something like that... But I will try the GetDataBackNTFS. I am a little scared of going into some of those crack sites... My browser warns me of them being unsafe.

Lol I know someone who took their HDD into a computer shop to get his data recovered, and he got NOTHING out of it. He still had to pay, of course.

EDIT:
Okay i used that GetDataBackNTFS program, and it works GREAT. Its about 1/3 done scanning.

YEAH after two hours, my hard disk is finally completely repaired... oh shit i just missed the superbowl... who cares...

anyway, now I can FINALLY get back to hacking San Andreas.

and i found an easus crack by torrent. too late, though.

Unfortunately, most of the files are corrupt (GOD DAMN IT!!!)

How can I fix these corrupt files? (some of them work...)

Some torrentz are fast if you are early and is still supported.

My problem is that my HDD wont register a letter for me to capture. AAARRGGHH...

Im glad you got yours back. I will try some of the programs mentioned here

GetDataBack doesn't need a drive letter to be registered in Windows to recover. As long as it's being detected by the system bios it should work.

Many of my files are either mixed together, severely corrupted, missing chunks, ok, or empty. Oh well!
