I came into some money lately, and boy are my arms tired.

Having cleaned up that mess with the legal tender still good, I am interested in sending off my first generation GBA to be modified for backlighting as well as any other clean-up maintenance that can be done on the system (it's yellowing around the edges of the plastic). No other modifications are of my interest currently, I just want to get backlighting onto it and get it cleaned up where applicable as a means of restoring it as close to what it was when I bought it new in 2001.

Does not have to be the cheapest place around, but affordability is nice considering shipping costs. I looked around and found some places online that offer services, but in my experience some of these places are all over the world (I'm based in the US) and some don't even offer the services they advertise anymore - can't be arsed to update their own websites.

If you have any recommendations or you do these services yourself, please post below. Thank you very much.

Is there any particular reason you won't do it yourself? It's a pretty easy mod to do yourself now, just need to get an AGS101 screen and a ribbon cable adapter, swap the screens, connect the ribbon cable, and solder 1 wire to the mobo and bang you're done. Takes like 10 minutes to do if you're confident at DIY stuff and maybe 20 minutes if you aren't, and it'll be cheaper since the kit costs like $70, whereas most places used to charge $100+ for it.

I'm not aware of anyone who does these anymore, but someone here on the Temp I'm sure would do it for cheapo though.

My autism and collection of other brain damages makes it more difficult to do very precise hand work on anything than it might be for most other people - it's for the same reason I can't develop as a graphic artist or performing pianist. I'm also a pyrophobe as solder stuff uses quite a bit of heat and have bad luck in fixing electronics in general.

It's one of those things where paying someone accomplished in the task would just be better all the way around than trying to do it myself.
