Hacking Real time cheat feature?

I have never actually figured out how this works or what it actually does. I tried looking on google but it didn't give me any real answers. The results I found just mentions some button combination like L+R+START+UP or whatever, but it does nothing when I press them (I have an M3 DS Simply with R4's v1.18 kernel, just so you know).

So my question is, what does this do and how does it work?

I'm not an expert, but basically it allows you to enable and disable a chaet while playing the game, that is, you do not need to enable it before loading the rom.

Yup

it is like allowing you to switch on/off the cheat function during game play
personally, i find this is rather useless unless you can deactivate/activate codes by per code basis
