Lali ho!

Mentioned before I grabbed a 512gb card for my new Switch Lite. Cost me 24 quid on eBay so ai assume it's either fake or stolen. But since I don't have the £160+ Amazon was asking, I took my chances on it. Arrived today and it seems legit to me. But I don't know much about memory card fakery. Pic attached, is this real, fake, stolen, what? If fake, please explain how you can tell so I can avoid fakes in future.

Assuming, probably quite safely, that it is indeed a fake, are there any risks to using it? Switch Lite has accepted it and registers the right amount of memory. Being fake doesn't seem to slow it down any. Is it just a question of reliability? Because I have NSO for cloud backups, if the card does fail surely I can just get another one and redownload my saves. Unless it's breaking after an hour, it works out cheaper to use half a dozen fakes before buying a legit one.

file corruption, versus it not working correctly.

Yeah, it's fake. Every time I try to download anything, even something as simple as Tetris 99 or a demo, it says corrupt data detected and refuses to do anything. Tried reformatting the card, tried everything. No avail.

Well, I took a shot and figured something like this might happen. Luckily I should have PayPal protection on this for a simple refund, the card is blatantly not fit for purpose and I can show it not working if needed so getting the money back should be fairly straightforward. My only problem now is how absurdly expensive proper memory cards are. I'm not a rich man by a long shot. Getting the console and the few games I have wiped me out for a few weeks. It'll be another month or two before the budget is good enough to buy a proper one from Amazon :(

You don't have to get the animal crossing one, regular 512GB micro SD is only $69.99 so like 50 pounds here in the us.

Sadly incorrect, took a look on Amazon UK and a decent 512 is well over £100. The official version of what I got today is £125 in the sale, usually £160. Sandisk 512s are around 100 or so. £50 will barely get a 256GB.

Are you sure about that, here's an integral one for £60 on amazon

Integral are a good brand albeit not very known. My 512gb card for my switch is still running fine.

yeah and a Nintendo card in a "professional" packaging

Packaging wasn't shown in the eBay listing, I had no idea. It's been flagged with the seller for 'not as described' and a refund requested through PayPal, who are usually pretty good about getting my money back for things like this. Hardly the end of the world. Just irritated because my Switch Lite's internal memory is basically full. Starlink Battle For Atlas takes up about 1/3rd of it even when running from a physical cartridge for some reason, probably all the DLC because Ubisoft. If I delete a couple of demos I might just barely be able to squeeze the physical install for Breath Of The Wild on there but then that's it, dead in the water til I get a new card.

Speaking of, some games take an absurd amount of memory even when on cart while others install literally nothing like Bravely Default 2. Is there a list of install sizes that covers both physical and digital file sizes anywhere around?
