Truly amazing work. Thank you all so much. I'll post my experience with RawkSD here for all to see with feedback and suggestions.
I own Rock Band 1, Rock Band 2, all the track packs (except AC/DC and Country
) and have downloaded 21 free songs (the 20 promised for free + Still Alive), and purchased 9 songs in the music store. Up til now it was a huge disappointment and hassle to have to change discs to play the music I wanted! And I couldn't even make appropriate set lists (For example, putting all of my Red Hot Chili Peppers songs into one set list... one from RB1, one from RB2, a downloaded one, and a Track Pack song!).
Now this is within reach. I was using a 1 GB SD card to hold my 30 downloaded songs. Yesterday I went out and bought a 2-pack of 2 GB SD cards. I extracted the RB1 ISO from my disc via wifi to my computer and used RawkSD to get the songs. Popped all 63 (as you know, the Wii version has 5 bonus songs) onto one of the 2 GB SD cards... they all fit! With my 30 downloaded songs, too! Yeehaw!
Now I'm trying to do the Track Packs, too... I've had no problems, and space isn't an issue, per se.. but! I have some suggestions to make RawkSD an even better program. In the name of progress! Forward!
As you now know, I am using 2 2 GB SD cards... I wish I could see my downloaded DLC from the music store and manage it within RawkSD if possible. For example, I have my 30 downloaded songs on BOTH of my 2 GB SD cards... I did a copy/paste job on them so I could have the RawkSD installs, etc. (and since they were already blank). I would like to be able to delete all 30 of those downloaded songs off of my second SD card in RawkSD. I realize I could do this via the Rock Band game itself... and that's what I'll probably do in the meantime.
Speaking of deleting, it is very cumbersome to delete songs added to the SD card from RawkSD... I extracted my Track Pack Volume 2 songs today and accidentally prefaced them with (TP1) (as opposed to (RB1) or (TP2)). I had two options: delete all of the songs one-at-a-time-which-was-very-time-consuming-but-I'm-still-very-appreciative-of-your-efforts or edit the song info one at a time to change (TP1) to (TP2).
I wish I could select multiple songs at once to delete. Editing multiple songs at once... not as huge a deal.
Also... I feel we as a community need to agree on naming conventions for the Track Packs. All seem to agree with using (RB1) followed by a space for their RB1 songs... could we agree to use the following for the others? These are just suggestions. Trying to help!
Track Pack 1 = (TP1)
Track Pack 2 = (TP2)
AC/DC = (ACDC)
Track Pack Classic Rock = (TPCR)
Country Track Pack (CTP)
Other things. When I was filling my 1 GB SD Card (before I purchased the 2 GB 2-pack) I didn't know how much would fit, so I just tried to jam all of RB1 on it. The program crashed (understandably, lol). Would it be possible to see how much free space is on the SD card in RawkSD? And to have some sort of... filling meter to know how much we can fit?
Also, I tested this earlier to see what would happen. I swapped my SD cards without running the RawkSD install to "install" the new songs... obviously it wouldn't let me play songs that really weren't on the card. It just sends you back to the main Rock Band 2 menu.
That being said, I enabled SD Card #2 (which has Track Pack 2 on it; #1 was previously working in there, which has my RB1 songs on it) and it erased all of the RB1 songs from the Quickplay Solo Tour mode, including scores (not a big deal, I'm not a score-whore). Would it somehow be possible for RawkSD to be able to manage multiple SD cards? Ideally, I'd like to be able to install a master list of songs onto RB2 even if the songs themselves are NOT on the SD card. That way, once installed, I can swap SD cards on the fly.
Once again,
THANK YOU SO MUCH to
ALL of those people involved with RawkSD! This post was not meant to be seen as a complaint! I am truly pleased with RawkSD as it exists now. I just thought I'd offer some constructive notes to help make it even better. Thank you for serving the community with your time and effort!
[Edit]One last note! I used RawkSD successfully yesterday using System Update 4.0u. I have had Homebrew Channel installed before that. Today I wanted to try out Punch-Out!! so I put the disc in and it wanted me to run a System Update from the disc. I did. RawkSD still works. Thought that might be helpful...[/Edit]
